Coming from a Greek background, I make it a point to try a Greek restaurant each time I travel. Trying Ammos in Virginia Beach was a great decision! The food was delicious and very similar to what my Yiayia (grandmother) used to make. The avgolemono soup was piping hot and flavorful. We ordered a mezze sampler for the table. The...
Creative takes on appetizers, fresh goat cheese and mozzarella, salads that blow you away, a gyro plate that I had to take a pic of it was so amazing. We have a ton of Greek residents in Tidewater, so we are spoiled by their great food. These folks stand out. Try a lunch on the patio.
My husband and I had a lovely dinner on their porch this past weekend. We both had the lentil soup and a Greek salad with the most amazing feta cheese. My husband had the moussaka with roasted potatoes and green beans. I had mahi-mahi with sautéed spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and garlic sauce with rice pilaf and baby carrots in a...
When I go to a Greek restaurant I really just want to eat taramasalata, fortunately my sister is like minded and we decided to order the taramasalata appetizer and the meet lovers entree. All of it was delicious. My brother in law's family is Greek and they really enjoy the restaurant as well. It's a bit unassuming in a strip...
My husband and I dined here with two other couples last weekend and we all had an enjoyable experience. I especially enjoyed the fish special which was a grilled whole red snapper with roasted potatoes and Greek green beans. My husband and several others really liked the moussaka. For an appetizer we tried the cheese baked in phyllo. Everyone was...
I've eaten there three times, once for lunch and twice for dinner (in only two trips to Va Beach!) Plenty of yummy appetizers: the Dolmades, Hummus and Feta Dips with Pita Wedges, Spanikopita, Greek Meatballs, Fried Zucchini, the Calamari..... and the Octopus... I could pretty much eat all day any day. Side story - one of those three dining experiences...
My spouse and I just returned from our first visit to Ammos. What an all around pleasure! Since the restaurant is only a few months old, it has a bright, new feel, Greek in spirit, but not overly kitschy. We enjoyed both of our appetizers (a fun touch with the flambéed cheese), our fish dishes and the baklava and creme...
Hubby and I wanted fresh, homemade Greek food during the Greek Festival weekend. The festival ships in pre-made food for serving to the visitors. Ammos prepares everything fresh and authentic and serves it in their new location on North Great Neck Rd. It's a little further from the Oceanfront than their original location so tourists, do yourself a favor and...
I have been to Greece and YES...I am a Greek Cuisine SNOB.
The Greek food at Ammos taste like you are in Athens, Greece.
***Loved the Moussaka ***
VERY AUTHENTIC ... not Americanized.
My favorite GREEK restaurant in the Hampton Roads Area!!!
This was the best Greek food I have eaten.I even ordered take-out dessert. Our waiter was wonderful and so quick.I highly reccomend this Restaurant to anyone.
I don't write a lot of reviews, but I have to tell you about this one. I am a Greek food snob. It takes a lot to impress me with Greek food. This place did it. The food was amazing. The portions were huge. And the wine was excellent. All this for about 30% less than I would pay for...
First time was last week, but it won't be our last. We come to VA Beach only a few times a year, so our restaurant experiences have to be perfect and this one was. Food was outstanding.
Above all, our server, PETAR, was one of the best I have ever experienced. I have dined in NYC, LA, Chicago, Miami, Wash...
First time visit to this place I've heard a lot about. Great ambience. Saturday visit was a surprise with a belly dancer performance which added the Greek authenticity. Ordered the pita dips for appetizer. Love it, love it, love it. The tzatziki was great. A tad too thick but still great with the cucumbers. The gyro platter was appetizing. Big...
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent! Best Ekmek Dessert I ever had! Beautiful atmosphere and reasonably priced.
Food, service & atmosphere are all top notch! The staff was very personable & efficient! Beautiful restaurant - clean! There were belly dancers there on the Saturday we went, it not only was great entertainment but it added much more to the Greek experience! Food is always amazing & and the pomegranate mojito was delicious! Highly recommended!
We had our food delivered through a local delivery service which was quite pricey, but the food itself was reasonably priced and everything was delicious. The hummus and pita bread were top notch and I usually make my own fresh. We were very impressed with the freshness and quality of every dish we ordered.
Beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and authentic and professional service. Highly recommended!!
Went To this place and it rocked!! Had the mixed grill and it was to die for. It came with lamb chops, skirt steak, some kind of spicy sausage and chicken. Hope they open one in washington dc!
My wife and I visited Ammos last week. The service was great and the food was even better. The Gyro is awesome as is the Greek Salad. You have to try the Saganaki. I highly recommend.
Really good food - best I've tasted since moving from Greek Town - Chicago. Only complaint - lemon potato side order (ordered 2 - fed one person) - $4.95 for 5 wedges - REALLY?? I've worked in food and beverage for 25 years and 1 1/2 boiled potato w/ lemon and oil is TINY food/operating cost - tasted great, worth $2.95 not $5!!! Will order again - good food and large amount of veggie...
The chicken was very good, the greek soup was very good and the bread excellent. French fries were terrible. The rice was tasteless. Service was exccellent and the atmosphere great. The wine and mixed drinks were high. 2 glasses of house wine and 2 mixed drinks were $34 ( one was $8 and one $9 but hubby couldn't tell which...
Stopped by on a Saturday night after the movies. Full house with a mix of couples, families and groups of friends but the gracious hostess quickly found us a table.
Very friendly staff, we felt right at home despite this being our first visit. The food was very good, generous portions for a reasonable price. We both took home leftovers....
Had the Greek sampler dinner and the flambe cheese. Food was scrumptious. Delectable. I lived in Greece for over a year and this was on par with the best traditional geek food I've had. Great service. Amazing really. Used a Groupon. Terrific wine. Perfect dinner.
Great Greek food at reasonable prices with very pleasant atmosphere. Having been to Greece many times I have little tolerance for those who try to cater to local tastes that have little resemblance to the authentic. Ammos is anything but and we thoroughly enjoyed the best Greek food in a long time. The service was attentive, but not overbearing.
Great...
I have been going to this place since it was located by the oceanfront, and hands down the best Greek place in the area! My boyfriend lived in Greece for 3 years, and said this place tastes just like good ol' authentic Greek food. I highly recommend checking them out!
Great dining experience, 5 star for sure, food is prepared to order, healthy, delicious, and the variety is outstanding. The prices are very modest for the quality and portions, the service is excellent and the atmosphere is beautiful. I can't think of another place in the city of Virginia Beach that offers as much, this is a must go as...
Though Ammos has been established for some years, I hadn't tried it at the ocean location. The restaurant moved a bit inland in the past month, and it's convenient to home now. A friend and I stopped in for lunch and took advantage of the VB Restaurant Week special. It gave us a chance to try more dishes for a...
Came here last week during the grand opening and have to say, this is one of the best restaurants i've been to in the tidewater area. Food was great. As was the service and the ambience of the restaurant. I definitely recommend this place.
We are residents and therefore I can say this is an very, very good restaraunt in a great location that has fine food and excellent service. We visited in Dec but it has outside terrace seating as well that will be great in the summer. We ordered the eggplant salad as an appetizer (if you have not had that before...
Amos is now located at 34 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach (757) 340-4343. They are now focused on becoming a locals locale for great Greek food. They are in a "soft opening" status, expecting a grand opening mid-December 2013. The owner, John and his wife have selected an upscale venue which has hosted other eateries. The are making additions...
Ammons is located on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. When I first went inside I noticed the nice atmosphere. White table cloths on the tables and widely spaced tables make for good conversation without being cramped. Nice place to go and relax and enjoy yourself with a nice meal. Very friendly and attentive service. The food was excellent. Loved the spices...
This place never fails to deliver. The owner's daughter ( they're really Greek) actively works the floor making sure you are served well. Food quality is the best I've had in all of my travels. Pricing is fair and the portions are large.
My navy ship held a reunion recently very near to Ammo's.. My wife and I had eaten there about 5 times while setting up the reunion. Without fail, the food was wonderful, service perfect for professionalism and friendliness. My grandson accompanied us on several visits and has become addicted to Ammos food. I recommended Ammo's to shipmates as the reunion...
The food was great the drinks were perfect, and the wait staff was excellent. the gyros were the best.
sitting outside watching the wave was awesome!!!!
I'd never been to an actual Greek Restaurant before, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was one down stairs in my hotel. We knew we'd have a good meal when we saw them proudly displaying the "Trip Advisor" Certification. It was a little pricey, but the portions were huge. My wife and I sat outside and were...
My husband and I dined here with our 8 month old. The food was excellent and the services was great. We were taken care of and our son was even made to feel welcome. The appetizer sampler was a great way to taste a little bit of everything. I had the chicken kabob, which was very good and filling.
Life is always great when sitting on the oceanfront, hearing the waves. Well, add really good, simplistic food and this is your place. Our server was very nice and prices were acceptable especially with the scenery.
I have walked by this restaurant many times and for some reason just never stopped in until this trip.
The weather was perfect for dining on the patio with a wonderful view of the beach and ocean. The food was very good and the prices very reasonable. Kyle, our waiter was great!
We will definitely keep this place on our...
This place has delicious Greek food.
This was the first time I had Greek food. I tried for and appetizer the Kolokithakia Tiganita: it is fried zucchini served with scordalia. For the main course I had what is called Mousaka: it is layers of sautéed eggplant, zucchini, potatoes and meat sauce topped with béchamel sauce and baked until brown, it...
Our stay was for 4 nights. During that short period, we went twice because we had a great waiter (TheoHarris) and I simply ADORED their regular Moussaka and salmon, and my spouse also adored both their salmon as well as their lamb! Great salad too! A must!!!!!
Had the occasion to visit Ammos a second time. A very comfortable, friendly place and reasonably priced. Appetizers are as delicious as the entrees. The owners are personable, "down to earth" yet professional. The barmaid provided excellent service too. If you want to taste authentic Greek food, then Ammos is the real deal.
My wife had the lamb kababs she enjoyed it I had the Vegetarian Platter plate, which delicious and plentiful. The price was right and the service was on point. My son went with the cheese pizza simple kid.
While on vacation in VA Beach we discovered the best Greek restaurant we have ever eaten in. Along with amazing oceanfront views Ammos offers fresh home style authentic food. The Mousaka and meat lovers platter were so delicious we actually returned to dine a few more times.
On one occasion we had the most delicious grilled Red Snapper ever....

Each summer we spent one week at VB, and we have dinner at least 4 times at Ammos. The food is always delicious, stuff very nice. their price is not higher than anyone else..Go there you will not regret it!!!
Nice Greek restaurnt right at the boardwalk. We stayed at the Best Western which is in the same building. I had the vegetarian Moussaka which was excellent. My wife had the normal Moussake but she liked the vega better!
The Budweisers were also very good priced. Recommended!
Referred to trip advisor for tonight's dinner after the past two nights that didnt meet our expectations. The entire family agrees that too bad we didn't find Ammos earlier during our vacation. Went September 1st, don't remember our waiters name but he's the one from Wisconsin and recommend him. We ordered the sampler s our appetizer and then asked what...
Great veggie wraps. Friendly staff! Outdoor seating. Mahi was a little overdone but still tasty. Family friendly. Would definitely recommend.
After several attempts of trying to get reservations to eat for our large party of 18, we were lucky to find this Greek restaurant overlooking the beach in the Best Western Hotel at 14th Street. The staff was very accommodating to our large party. The food was good, slightly overpriced for what you got but this is true at most...
Our whole family enjoyed our dinner here. We ate outside under the awning as a summer storm dropped buckets of rain, yet we stayed dry. The view of the beach and pier are excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We tried the meat lovers platter with side greek salads. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was great. It was...
authentic food, fresh vegetables in food, great view of the ocean while eating, friendly, attentive service, decent prices for being right on the beach.
Food was ok service was horrible seated right away but took forever for server to come over. Waited more then 30 minutes for food soda tasted like dishwater. Prices seemed high for the amount of food you got.Entertainment was good belly dancer.
I ate here tonight after walking around for a bit and decided this looked the best. The service was pretty good. The tzatkiki was amazing. The chicken dish we ordered was alright, not the best. The…
I had a chicken gyro and my companion had the Greek salad. The gyro was pretty reasonable as the chicken was grilled perfectly. The salad was pretty blah and loaded with oil though. There is an al…
After driving past this place on the Ocean front a couple of times we finally found it set back by the boardwalk. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by the hostess and given our pick of tables (it…
The food is great! And the service was wonderful. The greek meat platter was very good. A hidden treasure in VA Beach.
Food was ok. Would have been nice to have some Greek background music. Belly...
The Greek coffee was excellent. While the late lunch / early dinner we had was very good, I thought the portions were a little small for what we paid. Otherwise, I would go again!
We had dinner there in October 08. Rina was our waitress ... she was great...
I've only been here once, but I had the best horiatiki salad (like greek salad w/o the lettuce) I've had so far! Lots of big juicy vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, peperoncinis, olives, and feta…
