User reviews. Lunch today, fish tacos. Fried flounder severely overcooked.
Great. Laid back. Nice seafood options. Enjoyed crab cake on Greek salad. My spouse enjoyed his broiled scallops and seafood. Generous portions. Hush puppies are sweet and perfect!!!
Great food
My son was here from Arizona and I took him to Surf Rider(Shore Drive) because he loves seafood and and Surf Rider has always been good. We both ordered the broiled platter and it was a dried up mess with no taste at all. It looked and tasted like it had been cooked last week. We got half a piece...
This is one of our favorite restaurants to go too. It is always a great atmosphere as you look out at the water view and the sunset on the lake. It is located right at the center of Ocean View at Pretty Lake Ave. They have the best Flounder and Sides for around 20.00 and it is enough to fill...
My family and I had dinner at the Surf Rider and the food and service were amazing. The crab cakes were all lump meat and prepared perfectly. The broiled seafood platter was good as well. We had nothing bad to say about this restaurant and will go there again on our return.
My husband and I just moved to the area and I really wanted to like this place as we are on the look out for a favorite new local restaurant. Surf Rider was recommended to us as it was close by, so after an exhausting day of moving and unpacking boxes we decided to try it. We didn't realize how...
Very comfortable restaurant, greeted with a smile. The food is all freshly prepared and the wait staff were all very friendly. Good place for a family dinner, dinner with friends, or date night.
6/6/13, Had a hankering for a fish lunch. I had such poor service we walked out. Was seated by hostess and told the waitress would be right with us. We watched as our waitress chatted with other customers for about 20 minutes, without even a drink in front of us. After about 15 minutes a gentleman sat at the booth...
The waitress didn't bring my husband the right food .Clams on half shell looked dry like they were sitting out for a while. Corn on the cob was mushy (frozen) Yuck. My broiled seafood dinner was not cooked enough.I will never go there again
This was Great food ! The prices were Great ! You get a lot of food for the price. I had the shrimp - Big ones, so meaty, lightly coated. Was Great. Love their Hushpuppies also. Good Coleslaw. :) Descent server, but she could have ck'd on us a little more. Had a variety of pies for desert but couldn't...
Some of the best seafood in Chesapeake it was fresh and well prepared. The prices were a little high but the food was great!
Visited this place a couple of time on a business trip for lunches, love the seafood they have there, a bit on the pricy side but you get what you pay for.
Weather its the location in Norfolk near Weslyn, or on Netown Rd or in the Greenbrier area, Surf Rider has never let me down. The crab cakes are to die for and the she-crab soup is nothing but the truth. I love this place!
I can only speak for the Surf Rider located at the Marina in Ocean View, but the seafood is great and consistent. I particularly like the huge fried shrimp!
The restaurant itself is a bit dated, but the marina view is relaxing and nice, the service is great and the food is always fresh, hot & served quickly. Love it!!
Maybe my review is ao harsh because I live by one of the best places to get crabs this side of the water (WCP). However, the first time my husband and I went here we waited for over 5 mins for someone to talk to us. We left and went to Geisha instead. Then the next time we went the...
My lady and I patronized this Windsufer at about 4pm on Saturday, 29 December. My lady ordered steamed shrimp and broccoli. She said both were very good, especially the broccoli. I ordered the fried seafood platter (flounder, scallops, shrimp, and oysters) with corn pudding and yams. This dish also came with a few hush puppies. Everything on my order was...
Great view at this newly remodeled Marina restaraunt in the Little Creek Inlet. Relaxing with great drinks and good food. Service is outstanding and prices aren't bad for being on the water in an upscale waterfront area.
The food is good. It is kind of homestyle cooking nothing fancy, but they do it well. The view is outstanding. The only really fresh vegetable they have is they broccoli which is a must have. The she crab soup is very good too. The outside bar is great in warmer weather!
The seafood here is excellent and served at a reasonable price from a friendly staff. If your like crab meat, you will love their crab cakes. They are almost all crab meat. The restaurant has a rugged ambiance and could use updating but I choose a restaurant based on service and great food.
For some strange reason restaurants in Virginia have not learned how to make crab cakes....theirs are flat, fried and tasteless. Surf Rider restaurants in VABeach know that they must be made with the best lump meat, very little filler and broiled...not FRIED. Whether you get the crab cake platter, sandwich or Caesar Salad with crab cake on top, you can't...
This is like an old mom-pop place. It's nothing to look at (kind of cheesy actually), but the fish is consistently fresh and good. Sides are, well, like a mom & pop place, but they have a little specialty: Side of an entire head of broccoli - go for it! with the Friday fried fish special.
I think the the seafood here is really good ... the large salads are a good size, but the burgers are a no no ... the soups were really good
I sat both at the bar and at a table a coupla times ... as usual, bar service was excellent and happy while the table service was slow and indifferent...
I have been eating here for many years now since it opened and it is one of our favorite seafood places. Lunch or dinner it doesn't matter. Service is excellent 90% of the time. Sometimes I think they get more busy than they planned for but service is never bad. What to eat? Fried seafood platter, my favorite fried oysters...
This once-favorite locals' hangout has expanded along with the growth in the area, but it's losing its draw. Plenty of business--the place was packed by 6:30 on a summer week night. But service was slow and inattentive. We made the mistake of eating outdoors, and the flies were unbearable, with no fans to mitigate them. Food order was wrong, one...
The Super Steamer Combo is one of the nicest. No sides, just seafood. Fresh and sweet. Maybe I'm getting older and more critical but the place is dirty. The backs of the bench seats have grime you could scrape off with a knife. The ceiling tiles are grungy and drooping. The foot kicks of the bench seats have "original", "plank...
Other locations are closer to my home but this one has the nicest atmosphere. Service is outstanding and you receive a very good meal for the price. The broiled seafood platter is as good as that served in any area restaurant and the shrimp are good-sized. We always enjoy going here and we are already looking forward to our next...
Been to Surf Rider at Lynhaven Marina and on Laskin (now torn down) but have never stopped by the Shore drive local before....didn't dissapoint!
Heading down to Va Beach for a few weeks and decided to give it a go as it was late afternoon on a Friday ....good drink and good food and just what the doctor ordered.
I...
The surf rider has the best sea food in the area. Friendly and fast service. Food quality Great. A great place to eat.
After a long wait on a busy Saturday night our party of nine was seated. Excellent food and service carried the night for us.
Located in a marina this restaurant offers fresh seafood which is simply prepared in a homey setting but they are authentic and this location is the best one of the family operated business.
Do your taste buds a favor - go here for seafood. The BEST crabcakes in Hampton Roads, hands down. The outdoor patio is great, the inside ambiance is lacking, and it can get load, but people come for the seafood. The salads are great, and they'll add almost anything to your plain salad to make a meal.
We ate at the "west" location which is in a small strip plaza. The food was just excellent, I had the crab and shrimp, which was cooked just right. Can't say much for the decor, they could use a remodel there.
Very nice restaurant! The parking lot is just a little too small but the staff were the friendliest people of our whole trip! The hostesses were happy and not putting on a front... the bartender was very informative about the dinner menu during our wait for our table which was only about 15 min...and when we were seated the waitress,...
Good seafood served at an excellent venue. The outdoor deck is a nice place to enjoy your meal.
Loved the scallop dinner and steamed broccoli. Order it and you'll get a broccoli "tree" and homemade Hollandaise sauce. The other sides are probably good too but I haven't tried them....
I usually order the blackened tuna and its always perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife usually orders the cajun chicken pasta in alfredo, but they've recently switched from noodles to cheese pocket/purse things. The waitresses are usually good with the drinks too.
My friend takes me to this sea food HEAVEN and the only thing I can really say the whole meal is "OMG this is good!!!" It started with a cup of soup Clam Soup for my friend (which was really really good) and White Bean Chicken Chili for myself. I said "wow, this is good!!!" Then the calamari after which...
seafood seafood seafood very good & prices very good
some of the best hushpuppys in town
seafood platter fried or broiled excellent !!!!!!!!!
tables right on the water also large outdoor area on water
also have regular dinners for people who dont like seafood
Visiting Norfolk from NYC. Excellent seafood. Started with local oysters which were quite good and at $11 a dozen a great deal. The crab cakes lived up to the hype. The fried oysters were sublime. Service was friendly and prompt. We were impressed.
Surf Rider at Marina shores is my favorite. Surf Rider at Marina Shores has good seafood, a comfortable casual setting, and water views.
Went here for dinner while visiting Norfolk, VA and was pleasantly surprised at the delicious food. It was a really great deal so my boyfriend and I shared one of their biggest meals and that was still only 22 bucks for crab, shrimp, clams, sausage, and more. It was really tasty and good value for decent price. I'd recommend you...
Great seafood at very reasonable prices. Get the crab cake. Costs way less than anyone in VB
I will go back
I like Surf Rider. Go there for lunch every week or so. Nice scenery since this Surf Rider is on the marina.
One time I ordered fish, which was actually spoiled and smelled bad...the second time the steak was so tough as to be inedible...Not going back.
Wonderful seafood restaurant located in a marina in east ocean view. Always great food and service. The house specials are always very good. Prices are resonable. Good for family outings. Has a bar onsite.
We discovered the Surf Rider last year and it is now our go to seafood restaurant. This is a local family place that's not fancy but just has good food. My favorite is their lunch lump (unlike many restaurants they use real lump crab) crab cake sandwich. For dinner, I usually order their broiled seafood platter with shrimp, scallops, a...
A friend had told us about the Surf Rider and it was blocks from where we were staying but the city demolished everything in that block, we did know there were 2 others in the area and we went to the one in Norfolk which mapquest showed was 14 miles from our hotel.
Totally totally worth the 14 miles and...
The food is great . Had scallops, large, tender and melted in your mouth. One of Norfolks best kept secrets. They closed the location in Va. Beach to add another highrise :(
So sad! Locals are very disappointed, I'm sure!
This is a regular for my family. Rarely a bad experience; just kidding , it's all been good. Known foe it's huge head of broccoli, crab cakes, and fresh desserts. Most seats have some view of the water, modest though it may be. It's worth the price. Has the most atmosphere of all this chain offers.
Surf Rider -- there are numerous locations and I recommend the Shore Drive, Norfolk, VA, for the waterside ambience -- is the best bet for a "locals experience". If you haven't had fresh flounder, look forward to a perfect-fish swoon. Crabcakes are first class. Shrimp as good as you will find anywhere. Sides and desserts are standard, but that's not...
although i was told the food was fabulous i had no opportunity to enjoy it i was rejected from the restaraunt without explanation
i found the manager was disrespectful and when requested for an explanation responded by just saying leave my restaraunt
When I travel I like to seek out local restaurants and avoid any chain eateries. I found this restaurant on Travel Advisor and decided to try it. On the outside it looks like a neighborhood pub. But the food was delicious. The fried oysters were amazing. The crab cakes were totally delicious. There was no 'cake' to these crab cakes....
We were looking for a seafood restaurant near the airport because we just had one hour to spare for eating before checking in for our flight home. Worried about negative reviews but had totally good experience. Service was very good - friendly and fast. At first I thought the crab cakes were too creamy (I am very fussy, usually like...
Okay! Redemption from my previous bad review. Chicken salad and crab soup were good. Great service -lot's of ice tea and water refills. And folks report that the crab cake is good.
Surf Rider has been in the Hampton Road area of Virginia since the early 1980s and it now has a handful of locations serving seafood and other American dining options. They include shrimp and crab meat, fried seafood platter and seafood marinara.
