Dishonest - beware!

They came out to check the AC at our beach house while it was rented through a rental company in Nags Head. We were told by our rental company that someone from this business came out, checked the capacitors and installed a hard start kit. The service guy reported to the rental company that we needed a new compressor.
Because we were looking at such a large bill for replacing the compressor, the rental company called us. Little did this company know that we own a heating and air business at home (not in the Outer Banks). We decided to go down to the beach and checked it ourselves.
When checking capacitors at the beach, there is some corrosion on the terminals, so they have to be scraped a little in order to get a good connection when testing them with a multi-meter / volt meter. If not scraped, a capacitor will show up as dead even if it's not.
The first thing we noticed is that no one had attempted to scrape or clean the terminals to get a good connection.
Second, if the service guy had actually installed a hard start kit, the compressor would have started. It was not bad.
Any service tech should have been able to easily tell that a capacitor was bad on this unit.
We figure this guy expected that we knew nothing about HVAC and would simply go with whatever they said.
From the time we arrived at the beach to the time we left with the unit working properly was a total of 10 minutes.
A new capacitor is all it took to fix it (a part we sell for $35). Not only were they completely wrong about the problem, they were clearly dishonest. If I could assign a rating of less than one star, I would.
