The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum houses items from the research, development, testing, and evaluation of naval aircraft. Nineteen vintage aircraft are displayed outside. Inside, you can climb into a cockpit trainer and view some of the more-improbable creations that failed to pass muster, such as the Goodyear "Inflatoplane."
Loved the location and we were under the large pavilion which meant plenty of space. Although it rained, we stayed dry and when the sun came out (about 30 minutes), people were able to walk down to the water and enjoy the scenic view even more. Porta Potties were pretty clean (the 1 time I used it).
We took our 6 year old son and he really enjoyed looking at all the cool stuff in the museum, but what he most enjoyed was looking at all the planes outside. They are building a new building. We can't wait to see it when it opens. We had a nice time. There is a small fee to get in...
Very interesting displays and exhibits. Some are hands on for children, always a hit with my sister's grandchildren, ages 6 to 12. A new facility is under construction, expected to open later this summer (2015).
I really enjoyed this museum. You get a great history of aviation lesson walking throughout the exhibits. Museum staff are very dedicated and helpful. Love the exhibits.
It costs next to nothing to get in. There are many artifacts related to naval air corpse here. One of the most interesting to us was the collection of ejection seats for pilots.
