Not a pleasant place to work

I would like to say at the start i loved my job and what i did. I enjoyed the fast paced and multi tasking and learning new and different things, I worked there for almost a month. The assistant manager and the regional manager didn't care for me at all. I noticed from the start that there were issues with people getting along. I don't know if i would personally go with the racist thing as the prev review states only because i am white and the 2 managers i had issues with are white. The black workers there that are shift leaders are great, though they are treated differently by the assistant manger, i have noticed one of them being treated differently. You always hear of the assistant manager talking about other workers to different workers. There are black customers who come in that have dealt with this asst manager who stated they are always treated unfairly. There was a time i was working and over heard the assistant laughing at a customer whos keys got locked in her car. She couldn't find anyone to help. She came in and was very polite to me and told me the situation. Carly the ast manager stated that was karma, that the customer got what she deserved because she was rude the previous day. Well i went to quit because i couldn't take the abuse any more, and holy behold the owner kim was going to fire me. Seems they had a long list of all my wrong doings. First i was too slow at tagging clothing items. Well there were 2 times that i approached her and asked her how i was doing and her words were you need to get faster at tagging well everyone needs to get faster and we all need to get on the same page of how we tag, the process. She wants it done a certain way and noticed everyone isn't doing it that way. I started the conversation off by telling her that i didnt think it was working out for me,that i didn't fit in there. You have to be a certain kind of person to fit in with 2 of the mangers and that wasn't me. she then peceeds to tell me that she is glad i came to her she felt the same way it wasn't working out. Now im being told that i am on my phone all the time. I said no i check when i have missed calls and txt to make sure it isn't about my uncle. Then she states so yesterday you werent on your phone in the bathroom. I said no. Then i thought more and i said yes i called my voicemail, i had 2 missed calls from my uncle. But he never said anything and i didn't so technicly no i wasn't on a phone call. Well she states we have cameras and i know you were on the phone in your bathroom. Um no i really know what happened there, as being watched and followed my every move, i was followed to the bathroom by the regional manager who stayed in there, but i had to make sure things were okay with my uncle. Then after i explain the bathroom phone issue now im being accused of being on the phone behind the registers, i said no only to look at missed calls and text don't respond just look to make sure my uncle is okay. Then she moves on to im always disappearing. I said i am always zoning or helping customers. She said im not suppose to leave the floor unless told to by the shift lead. I said okay but i get told to stop standing around doing nothing, i need to be doing something, she then asks who would say that, i shouldn't be told that, i tell her who then she changes to well then that means you should find something to do. I said so you are contridicting yourself, telling me to wait for them to tell me to zone the floor or help a customer, yet i get fused at for standing there for a moment with nothing to do. I said i try to take inititive and find things to do. Then she moves on to tell me that i was wrong for empting the totes of shoes that was behind the registers. We usually do that when its slow and end of shift. We were very slow and all standing around doing nothing, so i took initive and did something that needed to be done. She said they could have waited, i should have stayed up there and stop disappearing, granted the shoes are right there by the registers and i was in plain site the whole time, except for when i was approched by a customer who wanted a winter item, so i went into the stockroom to see if we had the item, however i was accused of another disappearing act because i disappeared. The stockroom is the same as the breakroom. Maybe she should really watch the cameras and see when i disappeared that i was doing work on the floor, helping customers and when i was in the breakroom/stockroom i was putting away clothes or looking for something for a customer. There are camers in there also she needs to look at. Oh and breaks you don't get unless you are in the group. You have to ask to take one but you have to have permission and it can't be busy unless you are one of the pets. Example if thngs aren't like this as kim proclaims, then why would carly and lindsay come in the store and say hello to others by name and just walk by you and say nothing. Why would you always get staired at and laughed at? Now she doesn't want to talk any more. She offered me that i could leave or stay and finish my shift. I said i am going to stay. I go out and they are shocked, the 2 mangers standing there stairing at me and each other trying to figure out why im smiling and still there. The owner comes out and talks to them and then they want to come speak to me, out of the blue, the first time after being hired i have been spoke to by wither of these 2 other than telling me what to do next or what all im doing wrong. They were so happy that i was leaving. Now a little insight on my uncle as to why calls and text about him are so important to me, he has stage 4 liver cancer and can go at any time. He has good and bad days and basicly just wait on the call. So yes when i get a call r text from him r my aunt im going to check it. The manager knew about his condition. I don't anyone feeling sorry for me because of my uncle, i am just giving insight on why i was on the phone one day in the bathroom. So no i was never approached about my disappearing as carly called it by her just built up for kim to use. Another thing i brought to kims attention no one else, none of the other shift leads or workers have complained about me disappearing, slow work r using the phone except these 2. Isn't that strange, i told kim like i said you have to be a certain way to fit in here, she states no she don't run a business like that, thats not how it is. I told her she needs to come in there more often and watch how things are being done and how people are being treated. I am not done yet. She allowed me to quit instead of getting fired. Like she did me a favor. She thinks thats a way of covering her business better, but i still have grounds, and i also have notes that have been kept. I was going to let things go but i have been encouraged by a friend not to let things go, i was treated very wrong here and discremenated against and i am going to move forward and i am going to fight for my rights!! Also they refuse to provide me a paystub to show me how much taxes were taken out. We do have an app to see our hours how ever i asked numerous times for a paystub was told they have to send you an email and you register that way, i have yet to get the email to view my paystub. They cut my hours back so that my replacement could come in and get trained. They hire a black, then white going in order due to previous complaints, which i completely see going on with some workers and customers. You have to be in a certain lifestyle and have the good of things for certain managers to like you and treat you like a person. Being followed around and stairred at all day during your sift by a certain manager shouldnt be tolorated, If you noticed i was doing wrong by disappearing as you call it then maybe you should have approached me which was never done. This is discremination and i am going to fight for my rights.

racist employer Kim solomon

My name is Teeunya Harrison I have worked @ the Colonial Heights store for a year,first before I get in to how racist,sneaky and conniving Kim Solomon and her team of managers, Amber Elmore &Lisa Smith ,not to mention a racist employee Jody C is, I want to say I genuinely liked this job in the beginning.I busted my butt,gave great customer service and gave 110% through all of this foolishness til my last day of employment..working here had become like being back in highschool with all the he said she said bull c@!p..Kim solomon never straight out would ask me anything, she would call other employees into the back and ask them questions about me and what I was doing. And since I always follow the rules and other employees had no dirt to tell ,Kim Solomon and amber Elmore decided to invent reasons to write me up.just like on may 27 Kim solomon comes into the store,speaks to every white employee but doesn't speak to me,which is fine because I m used to it,but she calls employees in the back to question them about me..even tho I'm always available no one ever comes and talks to me directly,its always secret whispered meetings between Kim,amber elmore and Lisa smith..now from the beginning I always noticed I was always like 1 or 2 black employees but I didn't really pay it any mind.but then I started noticing whenever we had a hiring spree it would b 4\5 white girls & 1 Black girl..after a few weeks the black girl would get a call to not come back in with no explanation as to why.. I never spoke up because that's not my place..so I figured hey if I jus do my job I'm good..but then I started noticing that Kim would make rules at the meetings like no one was to be in the store alone but when I'd pull up in the morning Amber or Lisa smith would be in the store alone..one time Lisa smith told me to stay in the store while she ran to the bank and I said no I will wait in my car Because Kim said no one can be in the store alone..and I got wrote up for insubordination..I started feeling like they were trying to set me up so they could accuse me of stealing since Kim couldn't find any dirt on me to fire me,so they were gonna find away to make me quit..also Kim said no one was to wear jeans or open toe sandals,yet amber Elmore walks in in jeans on numerous occasions and on may 24 she comes to work in open toe sandals and jeans..if that would of been me I'd have gotten fired..I stopped wanting to count the registers and go to the bank because I felt lik they were gonna accuse me of stealing..I'm also never late,I'm always waiting out back til its my time to go in with another employee,but they start cutting my hours from 28 To 30,to be nasty to make me lose my childcare voucher so I'd quit..Lisa smith even told me & Cherie that she would put me on the schedule and amber or Kim would take me off a few days..and they all no I need at least 20hrs to keep my daycare..so they scheduled amber Elmore to open at 9:30 with Cherie instead of me in the mornings and everyday amber would be late,but luckily I still would be parked in back early,waiting on my shift to start,so Cherie could open..if I hadn't been there the store wouldnt open on time because amber never came strolling in until 10,which is when we open..I also got in trouble for coming in before schedule,when Lisa smith does it all the time,once she even opened the door for me,now granted no one can be in the store alone,so I got out my car & she said come in,but when amber got there and asked her why I was there 20mins early Lisa says,well tee knows her schedule.. But if I hadn't come in Lisa wouldn't have even be allowed in the store so she wasn't following Kim's rules,and if I wasn't allowed in why would Lisa let me in?? I have texted conversations to prove this and other employees can back up ambers always late..but she's kims pet so its OK..also I got written up for calling Amber..when everyday when amber leaves she says If you need anything call me..I never call her,but we all text other employees ..amber had worked the previous nite and I came in with another employee to open and the other girl was asking me why the store was so junky,why clothes were falling off the racks and y it was 24 bins of tagging..when Kim said it should be no bins left at nite.I just said I don't no..I have pictures to prove this..also it was 3 buys from the previous nite that I was suppose to buy but nobody had signed the buy log about who sorted and bought that nite..which is also against the rules..people get written up for that.so I had to call amber and ask what was going on..but Kim Solomon wrote me up for calling and questioning amber..if I'd have left the store a wreck and didn't sign the buy sheets I would have gotten fired.kim told me directly i was not to call and question amber.if I didn't call her how would I have completed the customers buys from the previous night since they hadn't signed the sheets..it Different rules for different people and I was starting to feel real negative vibes everyday..its like everyday I was just waiting to get fired or waiting to hear about Kim or amber or Lisa trying to dig up dirt on me..even customers no they racist,Jody is openely racist to black customers.she will pass on all their items and other employee no it.yet Jody kisses Kims butt so its OK to make a racist person a shift supervisor..I'm not there to kiss butt I'm there to make money to pay my bills ,to feed my daughter and take care of the customers..I have employees who will tell u I bust my butt and give 110% everyday and to get treated this way is absolutely horrible..I have been working since I was 13& I've never been involved in such childish,racist,fake lying secret mess as this..I asked Kim directly to please tell me what I did or how I messed up with the customers and she had absolutely nothing to say,no reasons at all for why I was getting wrote up and all amber did was stand there because they knew they were wrong for making up stuff..on the write up sheet I even said I don't agree with any of this because I follow all the rules.its such a terrible work environment, other employees can tell you how its different rules for different ppl..an how they r singling me out because I'm black..on may 27 as I was leaving Lisa smith came to me after Kim left and told me don't trust anyone because Kim is out to get me.Lisa told this to Cherie also but Lisa also said if I or cherie told she would deny she said it..but she told Cherie, so I have a witness,and lisa said I should get a lawyer because Kim's out to get me cause I'm black..but I understand no body wants to get involved and help me because nobody wants to get fired..but I'm fed up,it hurts me knowing I bust my butt for Kim and she doesn't want me in her store because I'm black..i have faithfully worked for her since May 2013 an have followed all rules, to be singled out and have my hours cut and to be stressed out every day because I may get fired anyday, and can't pay my bills is a horrible way to live..An I couldn't just quit because I knew I didn't do anything wrong.i knew I needed thejob, I needed to keep a roof over my baby's head and food on the table but this was getting out of hand, it made me sick to my stomach..then kim would have amber come in or lisa come in and stand around the office or hanging up clothes while me and cherie busted our butt taking care of the customers,buying, sorting and ringing up customers while they sometimes just stood around and watched or had secret meeting to try and find dirt on me or have some info to go run and tell kim.as you can see It's so much petty childish racist nonsense going on in the store it's a ridiculous work environment. .Some customers even tell me when I'm not working they won't even bring in items to sell because they can feel how racist kim is when she work or how racist jody is..I've even witnessed a black lady cuss lisa smith out and accuse her of being racist..i have so much more I can say, I have proof, and pictures and ex employees and employees who can back me up.i jus thought you would like to no what impression kim Solomon is giving to the name Once upon a Child or more like once upon a racist employer..on may 28 kim Solomon called to fire me with with no explanation. .but we all no It's because I'm black. ........Sincerely, Teeunya Harrison (804-490-1502)

I've sold to Once Upon a Child several times - just not this specific location. I went in with a good amount of boy and girl clothes consisting of brands such as Gap, Gymboree, Janie and Jack,...

I worked here 1yr.the owner Kim Solomon and her team of managers amber Elmore,Jody c and Lisa satre racist.. They only hire black ppl because they have to,bit they fire them for no reason a few weeks later.they ate racist towards black customers and many black customers have complained and sent complaints to corporate office..they buy the bate minimum from black customers items if you come to...

As the new owners of this store, we strongly disagree with the previous review. Any Gymboree clothing with tags that come into our store we are eager to accept. Sometimes we are overstocked and have to temporarily suspend buying of certain sizes, but that never lasts long. We buy all day, every day, all seasons. I can assure you that we work very hard to treat our customers fairly. I'm sorry this customer was not pleased with their experience. She should have asked for the owner and let me know so I could address her concerns.
