My wife and I just bought a house in Woodstock, MD. We noticed that we were having a problem in the basement bathroom, as water was overflowing out of the toilet and even backing up into the bathtub. It got so bad that we were unable to use water at all in the house because it kept overflowing in that bathroom. I was fairly certain that we had a stoppage in the main line, and that it needed to be addressed ASAP.

i had just moved into a house where they did all the original plumbing (complete rehab), and one day there was water pouring down from the ceiling.
they came out and found that a piece of pipe had never been glued to another piece when the original work was done. easy fix but it left several areas of drywall damaged by water, plus the holes and cutout in the ceiling where they had to access. They assured me that they would have the owner contact me asap and have their guy repair all the drywall that was damaged by their improper workmanship. well...
