Information about this business (5)

The White House and Museum of the Confederacy are located in downtown Richmond's historic Court End neighborhood, just a few blocks from Capitol Square. Guided tours of Jefferson Davis' executive mansion leave from the Museum lobby throughout the day and typically last around 45 minutes. Three floors of exhibits in the Museum chronicle the war years through the personal belongings of...

The American Civil War Museum operates three sites: The White House of the Confederacy and Historic Tredegar, both in Richmo...nd, and The Museum of the Confederacy – Appomattox. The goal of The American Civil War Museum is to help a diverse national and international audience learn American Civil War history in all its breadth and scope. Using dynamic and interactive exhibits, engaging...

The Museum and White House of the Confederacy is a neoclassical mansion built in 1818. President Jefferson Davis lived here during the Civil War years, and several pieces of furniture owned by him are on display. Adjacent to the restored White House is a museum containing more than 15,000 artifacts and 500 flags from the Confederate era. The collection includes the swords and other personal...

Editorial reviews from the web (2)

These two buildings provide a look at a crucial period in the nation's history. The museum (a good place to start) has elaborate permanent exhibitions on the Civil War era. The "world's largest collection of Confederate memorabilia" includes such artifacts as the sword Robert E. Lee wore to the surrender at Appomattox. Next door, the "White House" has in fact always been painted gray. Made of...

A required stop for Civil War buffs, this excellent museum houses the largest Confederate collection in the country, much contributed by veterans and their descendants. All the war's major events and campaigns are documented, and exhibits include period clothing and uniforms, a replica of Lee's headquarters, the role of African Americans in the Civil War, Confederate memorabilia, weapons, and...

Great tour and collection

We purchased the combo museum & tour ticket, we even got a AAA discount. The tour of the Confederate White House was really interesting, but I think that was in large part because of our tour guide, James, who said he was called out of retirement to fill in for the day. I'm glad he was, beacause he was wonderful...

Very poorly laid out and doesn't tell the story well

I was expecting a clear journey through the civil war, this just doesn't do it. It could and should be so much better and doesn't utilise modern technology to its advantage. If you want to see a collection of old confederate flags it would be great, I didn't.

Excellent combination ticket gives a great summary of the civil war

We bought a combination ticket for the house and th museum. The house does not allow photography but the museum does. The house tour was very informative and the museum gave a great overview of the civil war. Lots of civil war artifacts and the descriptions did not take too long to read. Read them all and got a high...

This is a great place for those wanting to learn more about the battles and strategies employed during the Civil War. It is good for children in Junior High and older. For the ladies, the tour of Jefferson Davis' home is a treat.

Wonderful historical trip

We had an outstanding guide who knew so much of the history of the house, the occupants, the Civil War, that I found the experience engaging. There were 8 of us US ARMY officers, so the historical aspect of the tour was most important. Kudos to the guide!
