Help us make it rightBefore I signed the contract with them, these people were very professional in their attitude but one I was locked in, things started taking a bad shape... and overall delivery was filled with just average and their attitude and behavior was very unprofessional.
I am writing in regard to "Military-Dad's" comments about The Mid-Atlantic Group, Inc.
First, I am Nick O'Connell the President of The Mid-Atlantic Group, Inc.
Military Dad signed a contract with our company to have renovations done to his condo. The contract spelled out the materials to be incorporated into the project. Military Dad signed the contract and we began work. Almost immediatly he came to us with a laundry list of changes he wanted done including adding 8 additional electrical receptacles in a condo size bathroom. He also wanted a custom shower base with a pebble stone floor. The contract called for a pre-moulded shower base. The list went on to include wainscott tile on the wall installed in a diamond pattern, making a vanity out of a table, a $600.00 shower head, nieches in various locations, etc.. He was informed these items would add a large sum to the project as well as additional time. It was requested we price it out which we did. When we gave him the cost, he demanded we break out every item for both time and material. I informed him this was a firm fixed price contract yet he insisted. I then priced the items out individually and presented it to him in spread sheet form. The cost of items priced one by one came out higher then if we had quoted them as a whole as I told him they would. He somehow equated this as ripping him off and asked to terminate the contract. I realized we would never be able to please him and let him walk away. Our net loss for this adventure is ($1,748.97) and we are the rip off?
I have total respect and honor for our Military and have contracted on bases from Ft. Eustis to Ft. Bragg where we have received excellent contractor reviews from DPW as well as The Corps of Engineers. I find it deplorable that any individual would use his or her status as a member of the armed forces to elicit sympathy or to slander a civilian with impunity. Shame on you Military Dad!
We have been in business for over 16 years and this is the first time we have ever had a problem with a client. We count our satisfied client base to include: The College of William and Mary, The City of Newport News, Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, and countless homeowners.
I ask you to take this at face value and on its merits. For more information about The Mid-Atlantic Group, Inc. please visit our website: www.magwilliamsburg.com
I am posting this as a warning to never use The Mid Atlantic Group, Inc for any renovation or remodeling work! Specifically stay clear of any dealings with Nick O'Connell who, in my professional opinion, is extremely deceptive and unethical in his business dealings. I have dealt with many professional contractors in my personal life and business career and have never seen anyone so bent on hiding the true scope of work and costs of the work to be done and inflating the cost of a project when pressed on providing documentation to substantiate his costs for time and materials. He will then threaten to sue you, even though their own contract specifies mediation for any dispute! It is even more vexing that he and his company take this approach with our military servicemen and women who then have to take their attention off of their duties protecting our country to deal with the Bu!!sh$t false accusations against them for not paying them for work they never did when the servicemen are just wanting a good job done at a fair price in the time frame promised; none of this was provided by Nick O'Connell and The Mid Atlantic Group, Inc. If you'd like more details you can contact me or the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
