In 1941, Pete and Cruz Cortez opened a little three-table cafe for early-rising farmers and workers at San Antonio's Mercado. Sixty years later Mi Tierra Cafe is a world-famous landmark - the place hometown regulars and hungry tourist go for authentic Mexican food and a warm Texas welcome. Mi Tierra now seats over 500 and is still located in Market Square, El Mercado

By day, a respectable place for families and power lunches; by night, the last stop after bars and clubs close.

Open 24 hours a day and festooned with Christmas lights year-round, Mi Tierra Cafe is a little loco and a lot of fun. We've got strolling musicians, a huge selection of Tex-Mex dishes and the coldest beer in the Mercado. Our magnificent carved oak bar is one of a kind. The bar is...

Piece of San Antonios' Cultural Restaurants.
Mexican it is and should be.
Great Bakery and Bar with a Museum of Mexican culture.

I took out-of-town guests for lunch, and was very disappointed in the quality of their food. I am Hispanic, born and raised here in San Antonio, so I know Mexican food, and was disgusted that Mi Tierra which is a big tourist attractIon would offer such an awful representation of Mexican Food. I will not ever go back, nor will I recommend Mi Tierra to anyone. By the way, the service was terrible.
