Blend of Californian and Mexican classics -- Cal-Mex? Seafood heavy on the menu. Not to say it's the way to order, necessarily. Freeze-dried servings, so might as well stay simple. Beans, rice, cheese, you're set. Washed down with a big ol' fruity margarita or two. Bar more packed than restaurant. Except maybe on Mondays, when food prices go cheaper.

We've been coming to Mexicali since it opened, and we've accepted the quirks like their Diet Coke tasting like cleaning fluid... You just know not to order it! Today hit a new low. It's my birthday, and two of the three orders were wrong, twice! And, my husband's skirt steak taco was completely raw!
It's just not worth going back...

Sorry I wanted to like this place. I live nearby and I like to support businesses near me. But the food is blah. They need to rethink this. Get a good chef to help them reinvent their menu. I had fajitas and they were so boring. The meat was fine but very plain without flavor. The guacamole was huge clumbs...

I was just there for a birthday dinner party. They do accommodate a large group of people which is positive, and the margaritas are and have always been really good. But, in the last few years, the food quality has been poor and nobody at the table really enjoyed their dinner. Disappointing because Mexicali used to be a popular place...

Nice environment. Service great kept the chips and salsa coming. Happy hour even on weekends 11 to 1 and 4 to 7. Would bring the family here. Moderate pricing. Appitizers great too.

A bit disapointing

Too dark and noisy inside so opted to sit on the terrace outside. The restaurant was very busy but we were served quickly and efficiently. The food was acceptable, but I expected more quality. Felt it was a bit overpriced for what you actually get.

At this Studio City cantina, a “lively” late-night scene and “myriad margaritas” complement a “varied” menu of “solid” Californian-Mexican fare; many prefer the “lovely” outdoor patio to the “dark” interior, to get away from the “loud” bar crowd and get a better look at the “cute” waiters.
