On this 100-acre Victorian estate, one can explore the lavish Maymont House museum, a carriage collection, and elaborate Italian and Japanese gardens. A true family attraction, Maymont's complex includes the Nature Visitor Center, native wildlife exhibits, and a children's farm. Kids love the pair of playful otters in the aquarium and the waterfall above the Japanese garden. A Bald Eagle...

In 1886, Maj. James Henry Dooley, another of Richmond's many self-made millionaires, purchased a 100-acre dairy farm and built this 33-room Romanesque Revival-style mansion surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds. Maymont is elaborately furnished with pieces from many periods chosen by the Dooleys -- Oriental carpets, an Art Nouveau swan-shaped bed, marble and bronze sculpture, porcelains,...

Escape for family fun or romantic garden walks at this 100-acre estate.

Upon arriving I went first to tour the mansion and I received a personal tour since no one else was there at the time. This home was built during the guilded age and it showed....everthing was so ornate and covered in gold or silver. The furniture was all beautifully carved. There is even a Tiffany stained glass window fully two...

Overrated Gardens

We went on a Monday so the mansion was closed, however, we were there for the gardens. We were not very impressed. The stonework in the Italian garden, especially the staricase was quite beautiful, but there wasn't much interesting in that or the herb garden. The Japanese garden also had some interesting stone and bridges, but again the plantings were...

Attended the 90th Anniversary Celebration at Maymont on Sunday, April 17th, 2016! It was a fantastic experience! There were antique cars, horse and buggy parades, and people in period costumes. The guided tour of the mansion was very informative and you'll get to see furnishings that you'll not see elsewhere (the swan bed for example). I was fascinated by the...
