Infested by cockroaches, tons of fees and they steal and lie!!!!

DON’T MOVE IN! DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

DON’T THINK “well…. Some people complain about everything, maybe it’s not that bad!” … IT IS THAT BAD!!!!!!

When we moved to Maple Bay, we got blinded by the nice layout of the townhomes, the size of the pool and the neatly arranged flower beds – all close to pretty much any store you can think of, only 5 minutes from the boardwalk. They say “location is everything” – well….. I would say “location can’t make up for just anything!”
Soon after we moved in, we had the first cockroach (or, to use Maple Bay’s euphemism “Water Bug”, since they crawl out of the stinky, disgusting little creek that’s full of trash, which Maple Bay is surrounded by) in the apartment. From that day on, I developed a cleaning obsession! We NEVER had any dishes out… not overnight and not even during the day. Not even for 2 seconds! We didn’t have any plants. We put our dog’s food-bowl away in a closed container at night. We had every single food source (packages of flour, sugar, fruit, vegetables, rice, etc.) in separate closed containers inside the cabinets or fridge), we NEVER left any liquid out (except for our dog’s water), we even wiped out the sink each night to dry it. We pulled out the stove, fridge, washer and dryer and cleaned underneath and behind it. We cleaned out all the cabinets, even underneath! Calqued and closed any visible holes we could find and attached insulation to the back-door. But we still kept on having cockroaches. Even with having our apartment sprayed (which is one of the uncountable fees of Maple Bay, which you have to pay for, no matter if you use it or not!) about once a month on average. It got to the point, where we didn’t even use our patio anymore, since it was pretty much covered in cockroaches. We never even opened the back door anymore – since each time we did, cockroaches came inside. We even had to throw out our grill, since we had quite a few of them in there and it was just too disgusting!
Well, you could say, this is nature, it’s not Maple Bay’s fault. Fine… might be true.
But: There really IS a fee for EVERYTHING! To get the gym key, parking fee (the apartments don’t come with a spot! No, not even one!), a super-high non-refundable dog-fee, the fee for the spray-person and, of course, the ridiculous fees they charge you, when you move out.
We moved out right after our first year, when the lease was up – couldn’t wait to get out of there.
When we moved out, we were charged a late fee for our last water/sewage bill for 75 Dollars. The amount was due on a Sunday, which was when their system was down, so we couldn’t pay it. We had been told, there was a grace period, so we didn’t think it would be a big deal to pay it a day later (especially since we also didn’t really have any other choice, with their system being down), but it was. Even though the late fee was charged AFTER we actually paid it – we got charged a late fee.
But, I can live with that. What I can NOT live with, is, that my husband, who used to work as a professional painter, painted the walls we had painted and covered up a few spots here and there when we moved out. During the final inspection, we got told, that we were actually supposed to paint the WHOLE WALL if there is some smudge on there and not just cover it up, so they would have to redo it all. My husband offered to do it the next morning, but according to the maintenance supervisor, there were already some new people planning on moving in the next morning. We left an almost full bucket of paint there, which he said, they would use so it’s cheaper and that the maximum they might charge us would be 400 Dollars, but made it sound like with the paint it would end up being a lot cheaper.
They charged us 300 Dollars, for repainting pretty much the entire apartment (I wonder when they did that, though, since there was no time for my husband to still do it the next morning and we left at 4 pm in the afternoon…..), when we had 3 rooms that were just freshly painted by a former painter (!!) and a few smudges. The rest had never even been touched by us. Remember, we also left the bucket of paint… no one can tell us what happened to it. All of a sudden, the maintenance supervisor can never come to the phone and hasn’t ever called us back within the last 5 months!!! We asked for a bill from the painters as proof, which we never got. They showed us pictures of the walls that needed to be painted: those pictures looked EXACTLY the same, before and after! There is no proof, they NEEDED to have the apartment repainted and, what’s worth, there is no proof they actually DID have it repainted!!!
Right now, I am assuming that they did not use any of our paint, since it is impossible for the work the painters were doing, to still be this expensive, which means that they STOLE our paint. We were trying to get a refund for the paint or the actual bucket back, but they refuse to talk to us and even their main office told us that there is no way we can get it back, unless we have a written document that states that we left the bucket there. (I guess, we were naïve to just leave it there).
In addition to this, they charged us for the repair of a crack in the wall, which happened during hurricane Sandy. Right when we noticed that, which was a few weeks after we moved in, we had a service request put in and their maintenance worker came out, took pictures of it and, after we asked, told us that we won’t get charged for this, when we move out. Nothing else ever happened to this – they never came back to fix it, but then charged us, when we moved out.
But this is actually not the only lie! When we were still living there, we had another issue that required a service request. (There was a hole in the wall by our front door and water went underneath our flooring, making the wooden beams all soggy and actually creating a little lake under the floor). We made an appointment for maintenance to come out and my husband even stayed home from work. They didn’t show up all day. After this, we didn’t have time to constantly call them (whenever we tried to reschedule, they said, maintenance would call us back, but they never did), so after a while, we gave up and waited for them to reschedule (after all it’s their responsibility to fix it, we had reported it, they didn’t show up – not really our problem anymore), but they never got back to us. When we asked them about this later, they said that I would never answer the phone (they never even called me once!) and that my husband’s number wasn’t working. Eventually, my husband did call them again, but they claimed, they had talked to me already in person (WHICH IS NOT TRUE!!!) and set an appointment (also: NOT TRUE). This is simply impertinent!!!
So all in all, after living in a cockroach-infested apartment for a year, during which they charged us tons of fees and lied to us, our final bill was 555 Dollars and they stole our paint. Not a place I would want to recommend to anyone.

Do not move here

Stay away from this place. Its very appealing at first, but not long after you move there you will realize why there are so many negative reviews online for Maple Bay. When I first moved there everyone could park wherever they liked and they was rarely a problem with parking. Then they made everyone pay for a reserved parking spot and entered an unnecessary agreement with Jack's towing. My assigned spot was under an acorn tree which began causing damage to my car. When I asked the manager if my spot could be moved, she told me that no because "if they did it for me, then they would have to do it for everyone. I told her that I was being FORCED to pay for a parking space that was DAMAGING my car and her reply was that nobody was forcing me to park there. If you ever want to invite guests over at the last minute, then I hope they like walking a long ways, because its impossible to get guest parking passes after the office closes. Again, a problem that Maple Bay created.

The pool is appealing at first, but you have to go to the office to get a pass to get in and sign in and out of a log book each time you go. If you want to bring a friend, you have to go to the office EACH time you want to bring a visitor to the pool.

There is only one trash compactor for this massive complex. So if you like driving round with trash in your car , then this is the place for you.

The management are always trying to figure out new and innovative ways to scam you out of your money. They decided to change there automatic billing system that deducts money from your account to pay rent. They sent an email to an account that I didn't use informing me of the change. By the way.....there is only a 1 day grace period for rent here. So when my rent didn't show up on the 1st, instead of a courtesy notice reminding me to update my information in the system (I had made two years of payments without being late a single time at this point) they sent me a notice to pay or be evicted. They charged me a late fee and wouldn't take a personal check from me for that month's rent. This is just one of the many scams you will encounter here. If you wanna hear some more then keep reading.

The jet noise here is unbearable. Like to watch movies? You are SOL, unless you turn the captions on. Like to sit on the porch and talk on the phone? Can't do it here.

Did I mention how awful the staff is at this place?

Maintenance requests are 50/50. Sometimes they do a great job and sometimes they make things worse.

These apartments look like they were remodeled by a retarded blind armless monkey. The cuts in the floor tile for the air vents aren't even close. The air vent in the bathroom sticks way up and have to be extra careful not to stub your toe on it. Also....Have any of these contractors that did this to these apartments ever hear of a leveler? The stove is crooked, so when you cook on it all of your food slides to one side. The toilet paper dispenser is crooked, the sink is crooked. There is so much lack of attention to detail in this place that it is truly mind boggling.

If you are a very nosy person ,than you have hit a gold mind at Maple Bay, because you will know everything thing your neighbors are doing thanks to the paper thin walls. That's if you can hear them over the loud a@s stereo blasting from their apartments at all hours of the night, but not to worry you if by chance your neighbors are not keeping you up there is always the jet noise.

Have I mentioned how useless the staff is?

Maple Bay thinks that you are not responsible enough to use a hose, so if you are lucky enough to have a water faucet on your back porch, don't fret...Maple Bay has disconnected it, making it nearly impossible to clean your back porch. The porches get disgusting after awhile.

My wife and I are very clean people. Every time the maintenance workers came by, they always commented on the cleanliness of our apartment. Well when we moved out we were charged $2300.00. Maple Bay made us pay to replace all of the carpets and floor tile in the kitchen as well as pay a pest control fee. When I called to ask about why I was charged a pest control fee I was told that there were bugs behind the outlets. I never saw any bugs and my wife and I kept this place clean and tidy. We rarely left dirty dishes in the sink. There were no bugs in this apartment and if there were they didn't come from us. They charged us $35.00 for a clogged toilet. The toilet wasn't even clogged when we vacated the apartment and even if it was....$35.00 to unclog a toilet. Are you f'ing kidding me?

These people are professional con artists and don't think you are immune from their scams. We lived here for 3 years and took very good care of our apartment. Our thanks for being good tenants was a bill for $2350. They made us replace old carpets that had reached the end of their useful life through normal wear and tear. They made us replace the kitchen tile for reasons I still can't comprehend. We had to pay for a bug treatment for a bug less apartment.

The truth is that they can't keep tenants in these apartments because it is a terrible place to live so they have to charge excessive fees when people move out. And after all...what can we do about it? Nothing...and they know it. Its their word against ours. This place has an immoral manager ran by a heartless immoral company. (AIMCO) Its a very corporate environment and there is no sense of a family friendly atmosphere here. They were offering free iPads to tenants that referred people to Maple Bay during the summer months. These are the peak months for renters in this area and Maple Bay still has to beg people to live here by offering free iPads. God help them in the winter months.

This place looks very appealing at first, but I urge everyone that reads this to please Stay Away. My wife and I moved up the road to the Salt Meadow Bay apartments and are extremely happy here. I hope anyone reads this finds a place where they can be happy , but Maple Bay is not it.

I lived there 30 years ago. It was nice and safe. It has only improved with the added amenities

Maple Bay Townhomes is currently under new management, so it is a good idea to disregard the past comments that had to do with management and move out discrepancies. They are currently replacing the carpet with a wooden vinyl material that looks a lot nicer, as well as easier to clean upon moveout. They have replaced all the lights with LEDs to lower energy costs, freshly re-stained the back...

This place is the WORST. The parking here is terrible and you have inconsiderate neighbors who park in the spot YOU PAY FOR and the office doesn’t do anything about it. I have also had so many ants in my house and they have not done anything about it even with me calling plenty of times. Also the trash compactor is always broken and people throw their trash everywhere. The office staff does not...

This is literally the Worst place I have ever lived in my entire Naval Career! On the first day we move in we turn on the shower and water comes pouring into the kitchen from the ceiling. If that wasn’t enough the trash is always backed up to the point there are mountains of it and all kinds of rodents. My wife and I decided to buy our own house and get out of this hell hole and when I go to...
