Living Arts College

As a recent Alumni from LAC I just HAD to write a review of my experience there. First I'd like to say that I had a wonderful time at LAC and in this review I will describe my experience from beginning to end.

Applying was made very easy thanks to the capable Student Services and Financial Aid department. They helped us find the best way to fund my college experience and even helped us apply to FASFA. Student Services made themselves available if I had any questions or needed any help. They assist all of their students in finding housing and jobs!

Once I was accepted I attended an orientation where I met all of my animation professors and the students that would be in my class. The classes are very small, especially for the animation department, but this allows for lots of one on one time with the professors. It is fairly easy to get into Living Arts, but it's not so easy to stay in and succeed. If you do not have a passion for what you do then you will not thrive at this school, but the same could be said for any place of learning. I started with around 12 people in my graduating class (just animation students) and only 3 of us made it through and graduated on time. The teachers may be tough, but it is their job to prepare their students for the real world. They give students the tools to succeed and it is our job to harness those tools and expand on them.

During my time at LAC I learned the fundamentals of animation and everything that goes with it. I learned the basics of modeling, rigging, animation, game design, and visual effects. I learned how to work well with a group and produce a worthy product along with other aspects of the creative arts like photography and web design.

The only thing I regret is not being more involved with my school. Now that I am trying to get my M.F.A those things would have made my application and resume look so much better. I recommend getting involved with extracurricular activities like the Game Developers Guild and Student Ambassadors. Make sure to participate in all the galleries and events the school has to offer and make your experience the best it can be.

The Student Services Department offers many resources to help alumni find jobs, but they are mostly geared toward North Carolina so if you plan on traveling you cannot just rely on them. You need to network and LAC provides plenty of opportunities for this as well. Every year the animation department takes a group of students to the Game Developers Conference and SIGGRAPH. These trips made a huge impact on my career as an animator and I made a bunch of contacts.

In short, LAC will be worth your while if you have passion and perseverance. Without these things you will not succeed, but if you love the world of animation then LAC is the perfect place for you!

Living Arts College

completed 2 years at this school and received a job with a boating company taking the skills I learned and executing them in the workplace. This school opened my world up to Creativity. Opportunity will open up for anyone who attends this school and studies hard.

Impressed

I was really impressed by Living Arts College. The work on the walls speaks for itself. Very nice! In addition to speaking with admissions I also spent time talking with current students.

Every one I spoke with was very positive.

Run for your life!!

"I went to school here for animation. I don't understand the extremely positive or negative reviews, blah, blah, blah..." That comment is a lie and it's a scam to make people go to that horrible school!

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL!! I used to go to this college and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Do your research before you consider going to LAC!! This school changes their name every few years to avoid lawsuits. And I must say, this school is a crock full of s**t!

There’s online articles about Roger Klietz and how the staff kicked all the students out of the school, took their money, and built the 3 domes that are in Raleigh now. One student in my animation class didn’t know how to use a f**king computer, and another one in one of my friends’ class couldn’t read!! The staff doesn’t tell prospective students that ONLY 12% OF THEIR STUDENTS GET JOBS in the industry.

They keep your classwork and get credit for it. They use CRACK SOFTWARE on all of their computers because they’re cheap and can’t afford the real programs. Their computers are plugged to one network, so every once in a while all the lights go out and people lose all their work. They keep students’ seat fee deposits, and they’re now charging alumni $15 an hour for visiting.

Pros: Networking, a few good teachers, basic learning, and... networking

Cons: Administrators steal your work, lawsuits, lets everyone in (even illiterate people who failed high school), Deborah Hooper, financial aid department, weak computer network, crack software, no accreditation, steals your money.

I was a part of the medical program there. Had I known the conditions of this school I would have never attended. I did graduate and I am employed but no thanks to many of the teachers. I mean many because I had a lot of them come and go. The director of education is a liar and womanizer. He sexually harasses his staff and carry on unprofessional relationships with them while he is married. The...

I've only taken design classes here and really can not comment on the other programs, but I did like this program. Great instructors, great students, good instruction. All the students I spoke to were friendly and the instructors knew their profession very well. This place is also great for networking because they take the students to many events and competitions in the area and across the country.
