While the food may not exactly be considered haute cuisine, this chophouse that Jane Vobe opened in 1772 is still a superior establishment vying for the top spot among the local nobs and snobs. The menu, headed "VICTUALS Pleasing to the PALATE expeditiously served after the Best MANNER," mixes dishes you can believe are based on period receipts ("Colonial Game Pye: Braised Venison, Rabbit,...

On the site of a 1772 establishment, King's Arms Tavern is a re-creation of the tavern and an adjoining home. Stables, a barbershop, laundry, smokehouse, kitchen, and other outbuildings have also been reconstructed. The original proprietress, Mrs. Jane Vobe, was famous for her fine cooking, and her establishment's proximity to the Capitol made it a natural meeting place during Publick Times....

Not too expensive and there were decent options. They sell you on a few menu items. No need to get the peanut soup, it is a waste unless you absolutely love peanuts. Pretty good kid options. A violinist came around and the kids enjoyed him....

Had dinner on 3/30 at 7pm. Restaurant was not busy being a Thursday evening. The setting and decor were very nice. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Both would receive 4-5 stars. Unfortunately, the food was lacking. My wife ordered the game pie which came...

Great Easter dinner. Marcin provided some of the best service that we have ever had. Knowledgeable, efficient, a pleasure to speak with. He took the time to give us some historical background about the Tavern, napkins and dining in 1770s, which we found most interesting....

We love coming to Williamsburg not only for the historic atmosphere but for a wonderful couples vacation. Eating at the taverns is part of the experience. We enjoy coming to the Kings Arms Tavern. The candle lit tables and colonial fare make it a romantic...

The Taverns have to move you through quickly. The food is ok. Best thing to order is chicken pie which I would give a 4 or fried chicken. This restaurant needs to organize better. They could use a restaurant consultant to move service areas and...

The original King's Arms Tavern was constructed in 1772 under the direction of Jane Vobe and immediately became the tavern of choice for the upper echelons of Colonial Williamsburg's society. Today, the tavern has been reconstructed so that visitors can enjoy a delicious meal in a fashionable colonial setting. Little details like the period piece descriptions on the menu and the colonial...

Josiah Chowning opened his tavern in 1766 appealing to the “ordinary sort.” Popular lore asserts that the modern sandwich has its origin in the 18th century and was named after John Montagu, the fourth earl of Sandwich. Today’s diners can partake of freshly prepared lunch fare featuring stew and sandwiches served by a gracious wait staff. Purchase and refill Souvenir Mugs here.

Shields Tavern was founded in 2010, and is located at 422 W Duke Of Glcester St in Williamsburg.
