After reading a few questionable reviews we went anyways, desiring dinner with some entertainment. We could not have been more pleased. The filet and scallops melted in your mouth. The food was amazing and memorable. In addition, several staff members stopped and asked if we needed anything and how everything was. We would definitely eat there again and recommend the place. Awesome!
Kabuto has the best Japanese food I've ever had, period. The sauces are amazing. I really like their shrimp tempora with a special sauce. The best part is the ginger sauce, which I pour over everything. I always get the filet with shrimp and fried rice. There's so much food they have to roll me out of there. My only warning is don't go there on New Year's Eve. Everything on the menu will not be available, as they try to hussle you in and out as fast as possible to get more seatings. Other than that day, it's a great place to go.
Our experience definitely earned 5 stars. The Chef was clearly experienced and knew what he was doing. All of our food was cooked perfectly. Out of all the times I've been to Japanese steakhouses this was my first time. You would think growing up in Richmond I would have gone there before I moved. I'll definitely be back.
The happy hour is the best! The service is always very friendly, but know that it can get slow when it's crowded (there are usually only two people making the sushi orders behind the sushi bar). My favorite rolls there are the volcano roll and the power roll! And if you sit right at the sushi bar sometimes the chef will throw in some freebies ;) This is definitely one of the better - if not one of the best - places to get sushi in Richmond!
The happy hour sushi and drinks are great for the buck! Both the bartenders and sushi chefs are a delight to chat with while enjoying one's meal at either bar. I especially recommend the ramen on Sundays.
