Editorial reviews from the web (1)

Adjacent to but distinct from Historic Jamestowne is a mainland living-history museum called Jamestown Settlement. The site marries 40,000 square feet of indoor facilities (completed in 2006) with outdoor replicas of the early James Fort, the three ships that brought the founding colonists from England, and a Powhatan Indian village. The introductory film 1607: A Nation Takes Root is shown in a...

This is not the original site of the Jamestown Settlement, but a great recreation of what the settlement looked like. There is the town, Indian site and two ships to tour. The renactors are always wonderful to talk to because they have so much knowledge. Make sure to also tour the actual site of the Jamestown Settlement. Two separate places,...

A full day of fun

This is a fantastic museum, you can spend an entire day here. I like that it has many interactive exhibits for the smaller children to keep them interested. It is both inside and outside exhibits. We decided to have lunch in the cafe and the food was good and reasonable priced with a large variety.

Great Presentation

Jamestown Settlement has a beautiful museum and visitors center. The volunteers are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The film is well done as are the indoor museum areas. The out of doors was very well done and informative.

A great balance of history and entertainment! If I were to choose between this and Historic Jamestown, I would choose this.

Amazing indoor museum

This location is just under a full day excursion, probably 4-5 hours max. It has an amazing timeline historic indoor museum (great for rainy days), which I wasn't expecting. Learned a lot about the Native Americans, Spanish, English, and Africans which first came to the Americas.
Outdoors, they have an Indian village with lots of recreational things for the kids...

Business description (3)

View replicas of the three ships and a fort occupied by the first settlers to arrive at Jamestowne in 1610. Historians, dressed in authentic period clothing, walk the grounds and are happy to answer your questions about life at the settlement. Visit the indoor gallery to see 30-minute documentary film and exhibits that document the lives of the English settlers, Powhatan Indians and African...

A recreation of one of the earliest European settlements in the Americas, the Jamestown Settlement consists of replicas of boats, buildings, and villages. This museum features galleries and videos about life as it was then and it manages to make history engaging for both adults and kids. Climb aboard the three boats which are replicas of those used to sail from England. Explore the Powhatan...

"Your empire will be eclipsed by a nation coming from Chesapeake." Powhatan, the ruler of the area that is now Virginia and the surrounding states, was given this warning by his chief advisor in 1607. A few months later, English colonists sailed into the Chesapeake Bay and settled at Jamestown. In a few years, Powhatan's power was usurped. Both adults and children will find visiting the...
