Help us make it rightWashington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon and one of D.C.’s most...
J. Paul's is Washington's quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul's bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors...
Always filled with an enthusiastic group of tourists and locals, J. Paul's Georgetown somehow never feels crowded and always feels inviting. While you're waiting for a table at this saloon, the bar is accommodating, and windows offer a delightful opportunity to people-watch. First-rate sandwiches, large salads and seasonal seafood offerings are favorites, as are the terrific burgers.
My waiter was awesome, very friendly and attentive.great food
Our server was excellent and the restaurant was clean and beautiful, too bad every single thing we ordered came out under cooked, one was even still frozen on the inside. We were hoping for a nice lunch/brunch in Georgetown but we won't be going back unfortunately.
Horrible food and over crowded. We didn't eat 2/3 of the food we ordered last weekend. Has gone so far downhill over the years - we've been going for over a decade. Their fried foods are fried in overused oil with an almost olive oil taste to it and the wait is so long for both a table and for food.
We had a really nice time here! We were seated immediately...even though we arrived about 10 minutes early. The complimentary pretzel bread was delicious.....and we also ordered a calamari appetizer which everyone enjoyed. Our meals took a little longer than expected, but overall not too long of a wait for that. The drinks were definitely on the expensive side...but that may be just a function...
Matt was the waiter and was excellent! Knowledgeable, fast, and efficient.

Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon and one of D.C.’s most popular watering holes for over 25 years.
