On a trip to Florence, Italy in 1983, Il Giardino co-owner Tony Gargiulo spotted a wood-burning stove being used for baking and knew it should be the centerpiece for his new restaurant. That same oven 3 the first of its kind in Virginia -- has churned out fresh foccccia and delicious to-order pizza as the cornerstone of the full-service Il Giardino ever since.

We used to go here all the time and always loved it. We hadn't been in a while and decided to go back. It was like a different restaurant. They seem to have squeezed more tables into the room, the place was so loud, and the food and service were both not good. Our waiter decided to give his attention to a larger table, and we had to wave him down to get him. He acted like we were inconveniencing him being there. The food always use to taste fresh and homemade, but not anymore. My pasta dish was burnt in places and lacked flavor. My husbands veal was dry and overdone. We were not happy. I do not mind paying alot for good atmosphere, food and service, but we did not find it here.
Great food! I loved their piano bar. Their menu features veal, chicken, seafood, pasta, steak and a thorough list of appetizers. A great place to go while at the ocean front. The veal saltimbocca is the best in the area. I'll be back!
This restaurant is wonderful! I love the food as well as the pleasant atmosphere! The service is great also. After dinner we like to walk on the beach, making everything just perfect!
We ventured into this local italian restaurant while in Virginia beach. We were presently surprised by the extensive menu and excellent service. They were very busy but managed to treat us very attentively. The fried calamari was done perfectly with a spicy sauce for dipping. I ordered linguini with white clam sauce ( it was very good) and my husband...

Had to send it back & we hate to do that. Never did give us any bread with our meal. Second time was Saturday February 9th. I asked for lobster...
