Hollywood Cemetery

Designed in a garden style along the banks of the James River, the cemetery requires at least an hour to stroll through the grounds. Many noted Virginians are buried here, including presidents John Tyler and James Monroe; Confederate president Jefferson Davis; and generals Fitzhugh Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, and George E. Pickett. Pets are allowed on leashes.

So I'm not a cemetery fan, but this was one of the most amazing cemetery I have ever seen. First it is Huge ! you could get lost. The gravestones are very unique and very old! There are two US Presidents buried here; James Monroe and John Tyler; along with Jefferson Davis Confederate President. It would have been nice to...

Hollywood Cemetery contains Presidents, Generals, Soldiers, and thousands of historical figures of America's history. Every time I walk it's grounds I find some new area that escaped my attention previously. History buffs will no doubt want to visit Jefferson Davis's grave.

On an overcast day, this was a lovely refreshing break and an interesting walk, with lovely perspectives and history. We found President Taylor in Munro's gravesite to Easley, but did not go the extra distance to find the Confederate President Davis.

Hollywood Cemetery is open to the public, free of charge, Monday-Sunday, 8am-6pm, and the cemetery office is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

Named for the abundance of Holly trees that grow in the area, Hollywood Cemetery is now the final resting-place of many famous civil war figures. Former presidents James Monroe and John Tyler along with many Confederate Generals and thousands of Confederate Soldiers have been buried here. In 1967, because of its historical significance, Hollywood Cemetery was named an Historical Landmark.
