Editorial reviews from the web (4)

Pioneer settlers Dwight and Maie Heard built a Spanish colonial–style building on their property to house their collection of Southwestern art. Today the staggering collection includes such exhibits as a Navajo hogan and rooms filled with art, pottery, jewelry, kachinas, and textiles. The Heard also actively supports contemporary Indian artists and displays their work. Their fabulous signature...

The Heard Museum is one of the nation's finest museums dealing exclusively with Native American cultures and is an ideal introduction to the indigenous peoples of Arizona. From pre-Columbian to contemporary, if it's art created by Native Americans, you'll find it here. If you're interested in the Native cultures of Arizona, this should be your very first stop in the state. The museum is an...

I’ve visited the Heard museum several times, and always learn something new about Native American culture. Still haven’t been to a Pow Wow yet, as they have one at the museum annually, but one day!

I enjoyed this particular experience with a dear friend who is an art director. Her recommendation was on point! I have seen a few exhibits here including Freda Cahaolo’s exhibit. I learn something new each time I go and I am a native Phoenician.

Although we visited for a private banquet, the museum was very accommodating and docents helpful.
Getting some old Native American history mixed with modern touches.
Spend plenty of time visiting the nooks to see very unusual and unique specimens.

This museum has an amazing collection of native american artifacts and current pieces from tribes around the southwest. Tastefully and sensitively displayed to help explain the cultures. Soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The exhibit on the Indian Schools really brought home the difficulties of this system....
