Hometowns are usually full of restaurant institutions and Durham is no different. Though when you have limited time you don't always get a chance to re-visit on home trips. But there are also a handful of these places that I never even got to when I lived here way back when. Most of that was do to not really caring too much about what I was eating or looking for something new and different....

Uninspired. The service was friendly and the atmosphere very casual - it's a seaside joint that just doesn't happen to be by the sea. The food is palatable but bland. There were no flavors that stood out in anything we sampled. They'll need to take a good look at their menu and improve some recipes before I'd consider another visit.
Great Seafood Find!. OK, first off...this is not a full service resturant! It's a joint! You order your food w/ a waitress while sitting at picknick tables covered w/ a talbecloth...You get your food and dig in! You shuck your own oysters, you peel your own shrimp and deshell your own lobster! You get dirty and use a lot of napkins! BUT THE FOOD IS WORTH IT! What Fishmongers lacks in service,...
Fishmongers is located at 806 W Main St in Durham and has been in the business of Retail - Seafood Markets since 1983.
When To Go: Upstairs is a separate oyster bar. Come Friday afternoons from 2pm to 5pm for steamed or raw oysters.
