On the second floor of Merchant's Square and practically across the street from the historic district stands this family-run B&B (there's no elevator). Each room is stylishly decorated by the owner in a motif that spotlights an aspect of Williamsburg town history. Modern amenities include a hair dryer and in-room phones with voice mail. Rooms have either a shower or a combination tub-shower....

Occupying upstairs quarters in one of the Merchants Square buildings, this charmer is the only privately owned inn in the Historic Area. "Colonial Williamsburg is your front yard," say owners Billy and Sharon Scruggs, who grew up here and put out a full breakfast every morning, including Virginia country ham biscuits. A sky-lit hallway with faux-brick floor and clapboard siding (you will swear...

We stayed one night at the Fife and Drum Inn on our trip down south. Our room (#3) was bright and sunny, and beautifully decorated in the colonial style of Williamsburg. Upon arrival, we were offered coffee, tea, lemonade and homemade chocolate chip cookies. The woman who greeted us was very friendly and helpful, and recommended an excellent restaurant for...

Very enjoyable 2 night stay in the Cedars Suite. It was smaller than it looked in the pictures on line , but certainly adequate. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. It was very quiet even in the middle of Merchant Square. It was convenient to everything. I loved that I could go down and get Hot tea or lemonade...

The Fife and Drum has a very good atmosphere. My wife and I stayed three nights, and found it comfortable, the staff welcoming, and the breakfast good. The walls of the rooms are perhaps a little thin, but the beds are large and soft, and the inn is nicely located in the center of everything - right between Colonial Williamsburg...

We had a wonderful stay at The Fife and Drum Inn. We wanted to start our spring break on a romantic note so we booked the Conservancy Room and I'm so pleased we did. There was a beautiful four poster canopy bed and a small claw-foot tub. I will note here that the tub was a lot smaller than we...

Took my two teenage children to look at William & Mary. What a wonderful stay we had at the Fife & Drum. The kids were charmed by the period rooms. The breakfast was delicious and the location could not be beat. Rest assured, should my child end up at W&M, I will be booking at the Fife and Drum.
