This was my first time going here with my husband, we had been fishing on the water during the day and decided to go somewhere we never have gone before and we both love German food considering his grandfather was German and I grew up in Germany. There was not anybody else eating there except a guy getting ready to leave when we were sat at a table. The food was ok and the waitress was great but there was an older lady there that was staring at me in almost disgust that I believed worked there, as she was not in dress attire as the waitresses. When we were at the register my husband was being polite trying to make small talk about our relevance to Germany and she was completely shrugging him off ignoring him not even cracking a smile till he handed her the tip and she looks to me and says, next time you come in here you can't wear that that's meant to be worn at the beach. I was wearing black mid legnth shorts with a bathing suit underneath a black tank top that had a cut design on the back which was not inappropriate not to mention there was NO sign of anything having to do with dress attire by customers. I was in shock and felt judged and ridiculed as a mother, wife, and responsible adult. They have lost our business and any one we know who enjoys German food as much as we do. We will never be back there again.
Simple, authentic. Does not try to be something it isn't. Meals are excellent!
Always treated like family when we visit. Wait staff is great, owner(s) are on site to ensure everything goes well. Varried menu, good prices, real German Beer! The food is authentic. So pleased we scheduled our Holiday Party there! You won't be disappointed.
As Always Great Service, and Great Food. I returned from Germany in 1995 after an 8 year tour there. This is the first "real German" food I've found in the USA. Their Gravy, Spatzle, Red Cabbage, Potato Salad, Schnitzels...You Name it, It is awesome. Call ahead to ensure they have openings or make a reservation. I now travel in businness to the Newport News area and I've been known to eat there every night. Try it, you will NOT regret it.
Have been here many times over the years and once again it was great! I love their spaetzle and order it with whatever else I get. A friend always gets the goulash and was not disappointed this time either. Their Hazelnut torte is a must if you have room for a dessert! The other reviewer is correct about a lack...

One of my favorite places in the Hampton Roads area when I lived there. Especially the carrot soup! Nice quaint atmosphere and waitress was very friendly. Thought the food was authentic too!Looking forward to visiting again!
I have been to this restaurant a few times before. I have to say I really enjoyed the food on other occasions. I have gone here because I know and enjoy German food. Having been to Germany several times I know what to expect in a good schnitzel. In the past this restaurant did not disappoint, but my last time...

Inexpensive, honest-to-goodness German food in attractive, unpretentious surroundings. Specialties at the restaurant, which is more than two decades old, are from the Rhineland region, where owners Traudel and Jim Hollingsworth grew up. Beef, pork and veal make up most of the dishes. Traditional dishes include spaetzle, rouladen, and goulash. All the desserts are made in-house. Specialty...
With authentic German food from the Rhineland region, this place has been a local favorite for over 20 years. The menu is limited to three or four items in each category, but that is enough – they are all uniformly excellent! Just pick what appeals to you, and you cannot go wrong. Don't skip dessert here – the hazlenut cake is amazing. In the local "Taste of Tidewater" poll, this restaurant...
