“Custom-made for fine dining”, this Printers Row New American in the Wyndham Blake is “not a run-of-the-mill hotel” eatery suggest supporters touting the “many interesting choices” and “top-notch” (if “limited”) menu augmented by “innovative” cocktails”; with “helpful”, “dignified” service and a modern setting it’s an “unexpected treat.”

THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Custom House Tavern Restaurant Review

There’s a warm vibe to the Printer’s Row dining room, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows hung with gauzy curtains, flagstone details and intimate booths and banquettes. The kitchen has seen its share of changes since opening; now, with chef de cuisine Zach Millican and pastry chef Erin Mooney in the kitchen, though, it’s full steam ahead. Start in the lounge with tasty pastrami beef tongue...

Alleviating Fears with avec's Perry Hendrix

Nine months after Erling Wu-Bower took over the helm from opening chef Koren Grieveson, ten-year-old avec has a new chef de cuisine in Perry Hendrix. Hendrix, who has a degree in botany with a concentration on wine production, had cooked in Asheville, NC, Utah and St. Louis, MO, before coming to Chicago in 2010 to helm Custom House Tavern and then opening Maison in 2012 (both restaurants have...

Custom House Tavern to Close After Service on Oct. 31

Well here's a shocker: Custom House Tavern will close after service on Oct. 31. The news broke on 312 Dining Diva Monday night, but no explanation was given. Eater reached out to Sue Kim-Drohomyrecky, who owns the restaurant with her husband Peter Drohomyrecky, but wasn't able to connect by press time. However, the team sent out a release confirming the closure.

"After seven deeply rich and...

Service was good. Main entree was average, but dessert was below par. Sat us down in an oversized table that we need to yell to talk to each other.

Great Lunch Spot - Dinner not so much

This restaurant in the heart of lower downtown Chicago tries very hard to present great dishes. The room seems much more inviting at lunchtime. The large windows on three sides make you feel like sitting in a fishbowl at night. Service was ok, food better than slightly better than average.

Fantastic find

Service and food were fantastic. The appetizer of pasta, butternut squash puree, shaved brussel sprouts, and toasted almonds was out of this world, one of the best things I have ever eaten! The service was also stellar.

Great Place Kind of Expensive

The atmosphere, food, and service were all wonderful at the Custom House. It was attached to our hotel (Wyndom's Blake) so it was an easy choice. We enjoyed the experience, but hamburgers and fries with a couple of drinks was well over $100 for a couple. The wait staff was exceptionally friendly and the food was prepared perfectly. They didn't...

Nice seasonal menu and excellent service. Located in Printers' Row, Custom House offers dishes using fresh seasonal ingredients and a fun bar/wine list.

Business description (5)

A seasonal restaurant that alters their menu depending the time of year. Seafood dishes and fresh salads in a slightly-Mediterranean style are the signature plates.

An attractive Printer's Row location paves the way for this upscale steakhouse. Entrees (around $20-$40) include beef tartare, bone-in ribeye, lobster, and marinated yellowtail. Steaks are served cut up and fanned. Intriguing side dishes include baby beets with marscapone. Custom House is open for lunch Mon-Sat, dinner served daily. -

Located in the Printers Row neighborhood of Chicago, critically acclaimed chef Shawn McClain has another hit with Custom House. After the success of vegetarian themed Green Zebra and Asian inspired Spring, Custom House brings regional American fare with a Mediterranean influence. The décor is contemporary yet warm, with beige suede banquettes, stone walls and burgundy accents. McClain's menu...

Custom House is a Steakhouse, Contemporary American, and American restaurant where most Menuism users came for fun with friends, paid more than $50, and tipped more than 18%.

Custom House Chef Shawn McClain has produced a menu that is filled with entrees that are created using “artisanal” meats and the freshest ingredients available. To compliment those selections, they offer an extensive selection of boutique wines. Custom House is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and reservations are recommended.
