Serving weirdly sophisticated Washingtonians since 1978.
Chocolate Moose has been owned and operated by two sisters, Barbara and Marcia Levi since 1978. Even though they have the occasional disagreement in the store, they still hang out together outside of work. Our manager Beth Lehnert has been there for 25 years. She totally keeps the place running and manages to act as a referee between Marcia and Barbara.
Expect to find "a dozen things to laugh at and several to buy" at this "friendly" circa-1978 Golden Triangle gift store that's "the place to go" when seeking "silly greeting cards", "knickknacks, stocking stuffers" and "joke" novelties – not to mention "pricey" "artisanal chocolates"; it's a "fun and funny" experience even if you're just "window shopping their wide selection", which clearly is...
Its website welcomes browsers with the words "Serving weirdly sophisticated Washingtonians since 1978, but now attempting to reach out to the rest of you." I guess my family qualifies as weirdly sophisticated, since we're longtime fans. My husband endears himself to me and our daughters when he brings home gifts from this shop: a Wonder Woman daybook; chunky, transparent, red heart-shaped...
The high-tech bar at this hot, haute restaurant offers almost everything the dining room does -- the chic crowd, the noise, the perfect martinis -- without the sky-high food bill. The bar snacks are pricey but worth every penny.
Opened by sisters Barbara and Marcia Levi in 1978, this offbeat gift shop is the place to go for cards, small gifts and chocolate in downtown D.C. Need a kooky card for a co-worker’s birthday? Have...
Great place for cute gifts and chocolates. The chocolates are sold by the pound and come in a nice red gift box. My friend that received them said they were enjoyable. I also picked up a gigantic...
Snooty owners upset about the presence of a bike lane out front go out of their way to sabotage it. Need overpriced sugar and/or crap? Look elsewhere. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
A staple of DC, this is the place to go to get gifts, cards, and chocolate. There is something in this store for everybody. Whether you are getting a gift for a newborn or a card for someone...
This place makes me so happy. They have the coolest gifts and the funniest (read-inappropriate) gifts. I came in there about 1.5 years ago and saw a...
Chocolate Moose is an eclectic little shop full of oddities and strange presents for your friends that are hard to buy for--and they have chocolate! I...

Opened by sisters Barbara and Marcia Levi in 1978, this offbeat gift shop is the place to go for cards, small gifts and chocolate in downtown D.C. Need a kooky card for a co-worker’s birthday? Have a hankering for chocolate-covered gummy bears? Can't live without a pair of wind-up chattering teeth? The Chocolate Moose has all that and more. The extensive chocolate counter offers handmade goodies from a Baltimore candy store, a variety of bulk candies and the shop's very own Chocolate Moose brand caramels and chocolate bars. The jewelry counter has pieces that range from funky to earthy, and...
Chocolate Moose is a great place to shop for seasonal or holiday gifts--the constantly changing merchandise is tailored to suit each holiday.
Parking in this area can be tricky, but the shop is just a short walk from the Farragut North metro stop on the Red Line.
In October, Chocolate Moose has a small selection of Halloween costumes if you need to pick up a last-minute outfit for a party.
