My stepmother turned me on to this place. She said Mr. Joe was very friendly and always looked out for her! So, we've ordered from here and the females are the best size, nicely seasoned and full of meat! The corn on the cob is the best!!! I won't buy my crabs from anywhere else from now on!

We got a dozen steamed crabs (mediums $38). We called around to several places in the area and this was the going rate, if they had crabs at all. Every crab was full, hard, and packed with nice yellow "mustard". Great job sorting the crabs given the dead loss and the size of the crabs that come up from down south this time of year. Captain Joe's crab house has been serving Essex since 1983. We serve hot steamed crabs, shrimp, crab cakes, stuffed shrimp, snow crab legs and soups.

Nothing is more popular in Essex than a crab house. This one usually sells out of crabs on the weekends because it is so loved, but patrons don't fret. There's more good stuff on Captain Joe's menu, which includes soft shell crabs and shrimp.
