Beware! This is the definition of a tourist trap! Food is average at best and wayyyyy too expensive. There actually aren't any really good seafood restaurants in Williamsburg. If you need to eat in/near CW, go the Leafe or A. Carroll's.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon after a cold day walking around CW...we both ordered the Restaurant Week special - a crab cake sandwich, choice of soup and side of fries. We were not disappointed. The she-crab soup and tomato bisque were excellent. The crab cake served with lettuce and tomato on an english muffin was pure crab, broiled to perfection in a light mayo sauce. I like my crabcakes a little more on the spicy side, but I'm not complaining. For $10.50, the meal was a bargain. We'll definitely be back.
I would like to thank the staff at Berret's Taphouse Grill for being so professional. I placed a call from Seattle (on 12/18/04) to purchase a dinner gift certificate for my sister and her husband. This was explained to the young lady who answered the phone, she placed me on hold and after five minutes, nobody picked back up. Thank you for your help. I will continue my search for a better dining facility.
One of the most reliable seafood spots around, Berret's is in Merchants Square. Upscale but casual, the restaurant lights crackling fires during colder months and opens up its pleasant outdoor patio when it's warm. Entrées and appetizers employ fresh Chesapeake Bay seafood. It's usually a sure bet to try any of the nightly specials of fresh fish, which often include perfectly prepared flounder....
A congenial, casual place, Berret's has a popular outdoor Tap House Grill, where you will find me quenching my thirst after schlepping around the Historic Area all day. It has heaters, so you can sit out here well into autumn. In the adjoining restaurant, canvas sailcloth shades, blue-trimmed china, and marine artifacts on the walls make an appropriate backdrop for the excellent seafood....
Excellent, as always! Will be back again.
We really enjoyed our early Valentine's date! Great food and service. Wine was excellent and we got to take the bottle home.
Amazing meal! I originally ordered the grilled mahi mahi, the appetizer sampler and a drink. The waiter pointed out that there was a mahi mahi and shrimp option on the specials menu, so I chose that instead. My husband wanted fried oysters, but didn't order them, so I snuck back and talked to the wait and had a dozen delivered to the table. They were very large for east coast oysters and done...
Ok place, ok food, reasonably priced. Service was ok, not bad. I would say an average beer selection. About half "local" and the rest domestic/import standard beers. I would go back if someone offered to take me, but once was enough for me.
This place is a higher end restaurant in a tourist trap. The food service staff is above average and the food is as well. $25+ a plate. The beer selection is pitiful. Three taps of lowest common denominator local brews. Bottle selection is on par with national chains. If you are looking for beer selection do not go here, go a block over to DoG Street pub. That place is well above average.
