Help us make it rightServing, lunch, dinner, the ever popular brunch, and "Dinsdag Mossel," Belga Cafe features an open kitchen, European casual dining room along with a sidewalk cafe. It is a small piece of Bussels on the Hill
Belga Cafe is a restaurant by Belgium native and award-winning Chef Bart Vandaele. A vibrant atmosphere modeled after Brussel's casual cafes, Belga Cafe is the original Belgian restaurant in Washington, DC. Opened in 2004, the neighborhood locale on Capitol Hill is known for its authentic cuisine, extensive craft beers and Genevers. Serving, lunch, dinner, the ever popular brunch, and "Dinsdag...
Belga cafe is a great place to eat typical Belgian cuisine. Combining an intriguing atmosphere with excellent, light and healthy interesting food. Belga Cafe is a little bit of Brussels on the Hill, with an open kitchen and a sidewalk cafe.
"Handsome" with "great mussels" sums up why legions "love, love, love" chef-owner Bart Vandaele's "real taste of Belgium" on an "edgy" stretch of Capitol Hill; "outstanding" midpriced eats aside, it's also a "beer destination", which along with the "tight", brick-walled art-"gallery"-like quarters, produces a "notable din", cut through ably by "competent" servers.
You can go traditional with mussels and the crispiest of french fries or dabble in what the chef calls Euro-fusion at this sleek café done up with dark wood, exposed brick, and creamy chairs and linens. Classic dishes such as waterzooi (Flemish beef stew) and leg of rabbit cooked with beer are expertly turned out, along with newer takes such as seared scallops with young carrots, red beets, and...
Sure Capitol Hill can be a nightmare of $1 Bud Light happy hours and wood-paneled steakhouses, but those in the know ditch the interns and old boy’s clubs in favor of the airy dining room at the Euro-fusion Belga Cafe. At night, journalists and European expats wash down mussels and twice-cooked fries with cold Hefeweizens. But the real indulgence is brunch, when hung-over Hill staffers spill...
Belga Café is located on a street called "Barracks Row," named for the Marine Corps barracks bordering the street to the east. This is one of those D.C. neighborhoods that's been here forever -- the Marine Barracks and the Navy Yard, just blocks away, sprouted 200 years ago -- but is now being revitalized by merchants and the city, especially with the nearby presence of Nationals Ballpark, the...
From beer to mussels and frites, this Capitol Hill restaurant specializes in all things Belgian--even the sauces use Belgian beer as a key ingredient--and waffles make an appearance on the dinner,...
Rabbit confit and crab sticks were great. Rabbit was dry and did not have much flavor. $18 Pinot Noir was an unpleasant surprise. For one appetizer, two entries and two glasses of wine we paid $110. Menu on the website is not up to date, wrong menu items and much lower prices than what they really are.
As always, Belga Cafe provides excellent food and service at a reasonable price.
This was a Belgian restaurant with a very robust and excellent menu. I really enjoyed it and would go there again.

Belga Café is the original Belgian restaurant in Washington DC and a great place for authentic Belgian food and Belgian Beers.
Belga Cafe's features Belgian food and beer. The menu includes items such as Belgian waffles, Belgian fries, and mussels. It has a sidewalk cafe for outdoor dining.
Always bustling at brunch and lunch, Belga Café brings a taste of old world Belgium to the heart of 8th St. S.E. Belgian Waffles are, not surprisingly, to die for. Don't be intimidated by the menu: Though all the items are named in Belgian, the descriptions should clear up any confusion. Try to go on a day when the front patio is open, and you can people watch as you enjoy one of the more than...
