Great Must See Day Trip!

Although located in Surry County, Virginia west of Smithfield and South of the James from Jamestown and Williamsburg, well worth the day trip because of the ancient mansion built in 1665 has a great tour and the outside 17th-century English formal gardens, slave quarters, 1710 Barn, and smokehouse are awesome!

This was a gorgeous estate. I learned some great things about days past. They are NOT state funded so any financial help is greatly appreciated.

To be able to be in such an old house, one of very few like it left standing -- anywhere, makes you stop and think. I like that a lot. To learn the quirks of the people who lived there made the tour that much more interesting. And to hear about Bacon's Rebellion was very much appreciated. It's an event...

We visited Bacon's Castle Friday, Dec 6, 2013. The house is a great example of preservation work and the importance of it. It is very interesting to see the different time periods and additions in one building so to speak. Carol was a very informative docent and be sure to buy the pass to see Smith's Ford Plantation as well....

What a great tour and site. This house is one of Virgina's architectural and historic treasures. I have long wanted to see Bacon's Castle (really neither Bacon's house or a castle, but a unique survivor of the 1600s in VA.) The tour was comprehensive and Todd the site manager tailored it to the groups interests This site and tour is...
