Although located in Surry County, Virginia west of Smithfield and South of the James from Jamestown and Williamsburg, well worth the day trip because of the ancient mansion built in 1665 has a great tour and the outside 17th-century English formal gardens, slave quarters, 1710 Barn, and smokehouse are awesome!

We visited Bacon's Castle Friday, Dec 6, 2013. The house is a great example of preservation work and the importance of it. It is very interesting to see the different time periods and additions in one building so to speak. Carol was a very informative docent and be sure to buy the pass to see Smith's Ford Plantation as well....
