Information about this business (5)

New York's Premier Cocktail Apothecary

Specializing in seasonal flavors, Apotheke crafts its cocktails with fresh, daily made ingredients, using local and organic produce, herbs, and botanicals.

Apotheke is one of the many speakeasy type bars found throughout Manhattan, only this one is located on what could be considered the most murderous alley in the history of New York, Doyers Street. This sanctuary located on this hidden alley in New York's Chinatown has plenty of old-fashion panache, though the drinks may be a bit on the high side. Housed in what was once a notorious opium den,...

A "secret gem" on a "random" Chinatown side street, this "fancy" lounge tricked out like an "old pharmacy" features "talented mixologists" in "cool lab coats" showing off "mad scientist" skills as they "serve up your medicine" via "serious" designer cocktails; if you can swallow the "premium cost", it's a "really sweet spot" to "drop the dollars."

The lao wei are still aflutter over Chinatown's hottest cocktail den, one that has created possibly the most buzz south of Canal Street since Cab Calloway's Smokey Joe took Minnie the Moocher down to "kick the gong" in Chinatown. In truth, Austrian-born Albert Trummer has hit all the right notes with his Apotheke, perhaps the natural evolution and vast improvement on the former Barmacy theme...

Located on a twisty Chinatown cul-de-sac in a former opium den, this apothecary-themed hideaway from cocktail master Alan Trummer boasts 250 specialty cocktails divided into categories like Stress Relievers, Pharmaceuticals, and Stimulants. The old-timey pharmacy vibe dominates the space—bartenders wear lab coats and use beakers to pour drinks—while the red leather banquettes pay tribute to the...

Ex-opium den turned medieval apothecary by Austrian mixologist. Only in Chinatown. James at the door working stealth entry behind Gold Flower Restaurant sign. Swank, sexy interior, with distressed walls, arch-topped shelves showing off backlit apothecary bottles. Libations follow the theme, broken down into stress relievers, analgesics, aphrodisiacs. Max out decadence via quasi-legal coca and...

With a selection of aphrodisiacs and cocktails designed to promote health and beauty, this covert Chinatown lounge is just what the doctor ordered.

In Short
Find Doyers Street (an alley off the Bowery), and look for some hipsters mulling around outside a red ""Gold Flower Restaurant"" sign, and you'll know you're in the right spot....

Probably my favorite speakeasy cocktail bar in all of NYC. It's hidden in Chinatown and doesn't have a sign. Look for the bouncer and the sign that says chemist. They have amazing cocktails all themed to creating the perfect concoction by your bar tending chemists. My favorite is the one made of fresh kale juice - trust me it's amazing. They also have incredible live music!

I finally had the pleasure of visiting Apotheke recently, after hearing so much about it. I can say overall it was a fun, albeit very pricey, experience.

Not in a very good place, but very good house music playing inside! We had to wait for a queue, still worth it! Well designed, concept and friendly environment! More likely to be pre-party place.

It seemed the perfect opportunity to meander on in to an unassuming pharmacy in Chinatown. Of course, this pharmacy is not all that it may seem and is in fact a little speakeasy known as Apotheke . We grabbed ourselves a little table and then perused the menu to find a prescription that would kick start a wonderful night. After some deliberation we finally settled on

A Great Cocktail Experiance! (But an Expensive one

We went here after dinner at Pulquerias next door. The bar staff wear lab coats and are friendly and happy to suggest concotions from the menu as it is quite extensive so can be hard to choose. Watching the cocktails get made is half the fun and drinking them is the other half!
I really enjoyed people watching here. There...

Business description (3)

At Apothéke, the presentation of a cocktail is just as dramatic as the cocktail itself. The bar is no longer a bar. It’s a stage. A chemistry lab. A theatre. A unique-shaped Austrian crystal glass is carefully selected for each cocktail, and into it, is poured a beautiful, jewel-colored liquid. This is much more than a cocktail bar – this is a cocktail apothecary.

The Extras: If you order the absinthe, Apotheke's owner Albert Trummer just might give a flame-throwing cocktail demonstration right on the spot.

Fun Fact: Secret underground mob tunnels run underneath the bar, and VIPs get a secret key to the hidden side entrance.

What to Drink: Try the Five Points, a delicious blend of house-made elixirs, hibiscus and Italian bitters, and named after the notoriously bloody neighborhood.
