Albemarle County Courthouse -- The center of village activity in Colonial days, the courthouse in the historic downtown area features a facade and portico dating from the Civil War. There's no tour, but you can glance at Jefferson's will in the County Office Building. It's easy to imagine Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe talking politics under the lawn's huge shade trees.

Not to be missed while in Charlottesville. The building is a treasure and so well preserved.
