Its now gone but not forgotten! I took several people there a few months before it closed earlier in 2007. It was not what I remembered from the 1970s but the antipasta was good, with some bite to the meat and the house red was drinkable and warmed me up

2 blocks away from the Washington Convention Center is the only thing recommending this restaurant and that's not much of a recommendation. When my friends and I walked in, we waited for a minute for someone to acknowledge us. Finally, a man stood up from a nearby table and said "Do you want to eat here?" Went to AV for the first time tonight- Great Food. Spoke to one of the waiters who informed us that AV's would only be around for another year then the building/lot was being sold to a developer. What a shame!

Just to put a finer point on the history of this place, I am 65, and my parents went there while they were still courting. So, it goes back to at least the late 1930's. I'm in the Chicago area, and haven't been back there in years, but would visit AV's in a heartbeat if I had the chance.
