Had flue inspected for real estate purchase. Technician said "minimal creosote build up" on his report and told then-homeowner that flue was in "good condition." Second inspection post-purchase by another company revealed significant creosote build up (we saw the bucket full) and multiple very large cracks and missing mortar in flue (there are photos). We are now stuck with a $2400 repair bill, which the sellers should have paid if the inspection had been done right the first time. Owner will NOT return calls or emails, sloughs it off onto the kid who runs the VA beach office, who offered to refund the inspection fee of $65, which is ridiculous. Also says technician could not see down the chimney because of spider webs. They can't be serious. Have contacted BBB, now going to the VA AG and am preparing a small claims suit. Unethical companies need to be held to account for the consequences of their laziness, incompetence and unresponsiveness.
